Slot Overview

Slot provider Elk Studios is back with another instalment in their “Cygnus” series, and this is now the 6th release! There’s a lot going on, including avalanche mechanics, mystery symbol transformations, multiplier pillars, two bonus rounds, and a whopping maximum win potential of 50,000x, so how does this next instalment in the series live up to its predecessors? Let’s find out!

Theme & Design

ELK Studios has always excelled at atmospheric world-building, and Cygnus is now arguably their most popular and successful slots series. From the original Cygnus release to later sequels like Cygnus 3 and Cygnus 4, the games have always proven popular with players, and it’s easy to see why.

Like all previous instalments in the series, Cygnus 6 looks superb. The action takes place high above Machu Picchu, which has been redesigned as a glowing 15th-century city! You can make out flaming torches, ancient stonework, and a beautiful sky; it looks superb, there’s no denying that!

Cygnus 6 Gameplay & Bonus Features

Cygnus 6 is played on a 6-reel, 4-row grid with 4,096 ways to win, although this layout can expand up to 8 rows, with up to 262,144 ways to win. You can bet from €0.20 to €100 per spin, and the game offers a disappointingly low RTP of 94%. Wins are paid from left to right, and any symbols involved in a win explode before new ones slide down to take their place.

Now, each win can activate stars within the current constellation. When two or more active stars are aligned by the end of an avalanche, the Starlight feature triggers, transforming constellation-line symbols into a matching symbol or Wild. You’ll also see Star Chargers and Multiplier symbols on the grid. If they reach the bottom, they activate. Star Chargers light up 1-3 stars before turning Wild, while Multipliers increase the global win multiplier before also turning wild.

When all stars in a constellation become active or consumed within a single spin, the Cygnus Realm feature triggers. You’re then taken to a giant 6×8 grid with sticky mystery symbols and three re-spins. Your re-spin counter resets when new high-value mystery symbols land, and at the end, all of these symbols transform into matching symbols.

If you manage to get the Scatter symbol to touch the leftmost reel, you’ll trigger the game’s main free spins bonus round. This awards you with 7 free spins, and during these spins the multiplier doesn’t reset between spins. Once you open a new row, it’s also kept unlocked, using a safety-level mechanic. Each winning avalanche increases the safety level by one row, up to 8 rows high.

X-iter Bonus Buy

Cygnus 6 includes ELK’s full X-iter options, if you live in a region where these are available. You can choose from:

  • Bonus Hunt: Costs 2.5x for an increased chance of triggering the free spins bonus
  • Mega Bonus Hunt: Costs 5x for an even greater chance of triggering the free spins
  • Cosmic Spins: Costs 50x for a spin on an 8-row grid with a random pillar multiplier
  • Bonus Game: Costs 100x for instant entry to the free spins bonus
  • Shooting Stars: Costs 500x for a super bonus-style round, with high pillar multipliers and multiple active constellations

Pros

  • Insane maximum win potential of 50,000x.
  • Very unique Inca/cosmic theme with stunning visuals.
  • Free Spins + Cygnus Realm bonuses.

Cons

  • A 94% RTP is disappointingly low.
  • Super Bonus Buy is very expensive at 500x.
  • Base game can feel quite slow without constellation activations.

Cygnus 6 Slot Review Final Thoughts

Here at Demoslot we’ve always been fans of Elk Studios’ Cygnus range of games, and we like Cygnus 6. It does a great job of combining astronomy, ancient rituals, and stargazing, and there’s some pretty cool progression mechanics built into the slot.

We like the fact that the constellation system feels like it actually does something, and the multipliers and pillars can lead to some pretty decent wins, even in the base. The free spins can be very lucrative too, especially once the safety level reaches 7 or 8 rows high.

It’s also superb to see Elk Studios finally releasing games with maximum win potentials that match competitors like Nolimit City and Pragmatic Play. Sure, we don’t love the fact that the RTP is well below average at 94%, but it’s not the worst in the world, and, for many players, a shot at the 50,000x max win is likely worth a couple of RTP percentage points.

Of course, you’ll need extreme luck to get anywhere close to this, but if you enjoy deep, progression-style slots with well-thought-out themes, stunning graphics, and plenty of bonus action, Cygnus 6 is definitely worth checking out.
