Slot Overview
Cyber Pup Megaways is a new release from Pragmatic Play. This high-variance Megaways slot combines a 6-reel layout with up to 117,649 ways to win, cascading tumbles, symbol-transforming wilds, a gamble feature, and a maximum win potential worth a whopping 40,000x! On paper, it looks like it’s going to be one of the more ambitious Megaways releases we’ve seen in a while, but does it actually deliver? Let’s find out.
Gameplay & Bonus Features
Cyber Pup Megaways uses a 6-reel Megaways layout with between 2 and 7 symbols per reel, and this offers up to 117,649 ways to win on each spin. The RTP sits at 96.09%, which is around average, and you can bet from €0.20 to €100 per spin.
Now, in the base game, cascading reels are used, so winning symbols disappear and are replaced by new ones dropping from above. The core mechanic is the Lightning Bolt symbol, which only appears on the top horizontal reel. Whenever it lands, it chooses a random paying symbol from reels 2, 3, 4 or 5, and it then turns every instance of that symbol, in view, into a wild.
The free spins are triggered by landing 4 or more scatters, and this awards you with between 10 and 30 spins depending on how many scatters you land. Before the feature begins, you also have the option to gamble your spins to try and start with up to 4 extra spins. Now, during the free spins it’s a fairly standard Megaways format, and you begin the feature with a multiplier of 1x, and this increases by +1x for every tumble.

Theme & Design
Cyber Pup Megaways takes clear inspiration from Studio Ghibli and modern Japanese animation, and honestly, it’s one of the better-looking Pragmatic Play releases we’ve reviewed recently.
The reels are set in what looks to be, at least, a peaceful suburban neighbourhood, and while it does use the Megaways format, it’s really nicely done, possibly one of the most unique-looking Megaways games we’ve ever seen, and we really want to give credit to Pragmatic Play here, as it really does look solid.
Like all 117,649-ways-to-win Megaways games, Cyber Pup Megaways has the top row of symbols. In the top right-hand corner of the screen you can view the number of Megaways for that spin, too. If you like Japanese games like Moon Princess Stargazing or Disco Beats, we’d say there’s a fairly good chance you’ll like what Pragmatic has done here.
Pros
- Beautiful Ghibli-inspired design
- Insanely high maximum win potential of 40,000x
- Lightning Bolt mechanic is exciting
Cons
- The bonus hit frequency is a brutal 1 in 418
- Gamble Wheel is pretty much all-or-nothing
- The base game can feel quiet without the Lightning Bolt landing
Final Thoughts
Cyber Pup Megaways is one of those rare Pragmatic Play releases where the graphics and theme make us really feel that the studio has worked incredibly hard. It’s anything but a generic re-skin of a Megaways game, and this is something we can’t quite believe we’re saying; the mechanic has been so “done to death” in the last few years, we’d forgotten that it was actually possible for studios to be... creative!
Now, yes, the Lightning Bolt mechanic isn’t exactly new, but we feel Pragmatic Play has presented it in a unique way, and we like the fact that it’s possible to trigger it more than once in a single spin if the symbol moves across the top row.
Sure, we can’t ignore the fact that the 1 in 418 bonus frequency is brutal, but that’s kind of expected from a Megaways slot, and especially one with a maximum win potential of 40,000x, so if you’re prepared to endure some dry spells in the base game (or are happy to use the Bonus Buy), Cyber Pup Megaways is definitely a slot we’d recommend, for the design alone!

In my opinion, Cyber Pup Megaways is more about selling looks and potential than the actual playing experience. While it’s theoretically appealing with an RTP of around 96.09% and a maximum win of 40,000x, the gameplay feels very labored at high volatility. The main problem lies in the inconsistent hit frequency. While Megaways is supposed to offer multiple ways to win, in reality, many spins feel empty or only yield small, inconsequential wins. The cascade and multiplier mechanics often seem more like “visual enhancements” than actually delivering significant results.
