Game Overview
Another day, another fruit-themed online slot machine! But hold up, don’t click away just yet as this is a Pragmatic Play release, and as one of the most reliable online slots developers, I feel sure that this should be a good one that stands out from the crowd… right? There’s nothing that immediately stands out about the Crown of Fire video slot; it’s a 5×3 reel machine with ten fixed pay lines and an RTP of 96.36%. The maximum win isn’t much to shout about either, with this coming in at just 1,000x your stake.
Things begin to get a little sketchy when we start looking for the feature set – there doesn’t seem to be much to talk about! The “Crown of Fire” mentioned in the game’s title is the wild symbol and appears on reels two, three, and four only. It looks just like a regular crown to me, but it does expand to cover the entire reel vertically, which should mean that you can win much more than the 450x for a single full pay line of lucky sevens.
If you enjoy classic slots, this game should be right up your street, whilst for those unfamiliar with the genre, we have a free demo slot of Crown of Fire available below for you to explore, which is playable on desktop, tablet, and mobile devices.
Crown Of Fire Slot Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols
There’s only so much we can say about fruit-themed games at this point – there must be hundreds if not thousands of online slots today that use the same classic symbols used on gambling machines for decades. The term “fruit machine” is interchangeable with “slot machine” in many countries, even though most slots work very differently from a typical fruit machine that you could find in a pub or bar somewhere in your city. Fruit machines have fallen out of favour in many countries during the past decade or two, possibly due to the rising popularity of amusement arcades and betting shops with big jackpot fixed odds betting terminals. There’s nothing wrong with a classic slot or a fruit-themed slot, but you do have to wonder why there are so many of them – I genuinely cannot imagine any player looking at this game and feeling that they must play it.
That being said, the paytable of the Crown of Fire online slot is much more generous than some other classic slot machines. The highest-paying regular symbol is the lucky seven with a return of 450x your bet for a full pay line of five-of-a-kind, whilst the scatter symbols will pay you 100x your bet if you manage to land all five of those on a single spin. After this, we have the grapes and watermelon at 55x and the bell at 25x. The cherries, lemon, orange, and plum all have the same payout of 10x the current stake for a full pay line of five-of-a-kind. The paytable also mentions a “special scatter”, which looks like a dollar symbol and pays 20x your stake for just one anywhere on the screen, but whenever I saw one of these during testing, it didn’t pay me anything. I’m not sure what the deal is here, perhaps each one is worth 20x, but you need to hit all three to receive a payout? I did my best to work this out but couldn’t land all three despite several hundred spins of trying!
Pragmatic Play has included their usual wager selection system, which opens a window with three controls each time you click on the plus or minus symbols on either side of the spin button. You can ignore this window if you like and just use the two buttons to select a wager between €0.10 and €100.00 per round, or you can play with the “Coins per Line”, “Coin Value”, and “Total Bet” controls for more granular control if you wish.
Base Game & Modifiers
The regular play uses a standard 5×3 playfield, and the ten fixed paylines are arranged in a predictable pattern on the layout. Three or more matching symbols starting from the left side of the screen will award a win, except for the lucky sevens, which also pay for two matching symbols. The scatter and special scatter both pay anywhere according to the paytable. Still, as mentioned earlier, I couldn’t work out what was happening with the “special scatter” as it didn’t pay me anything for one symbol, as shown on the paytable.
Expanding Wild Modifier
The expanding wild is a special solo feature of the Crown of Fire slot game. This is represented by a crown that only appears on reels two, three, and four. If you can manage to land all three of these symbols simultaneously, they will all expand to fill the entirety of reels two through four, meaning you are guaranteed at least ten four-of-a-kind wins for each symbol on the first reel.
Ideally, you will be hoping to catch at least one symbol in the right place on reel five, too, but I never managed to land more than two wilds at the same time during testing, so I can’t say how likely that might be!
Crown Of Fire Slot Review Final Thoughts
Those who enjoy classic slot design will undoubtedly love Pragmatic Play’s work on Crown of Fire, but it isn’t going to appeal to everybody. For me, it’s good for a quick blast, but there simply isn’t enough going on to keep me coming back for more.
