Game Overview

Come on, admit it, like me, you expected a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles theme when you saw the title of this slot. I was excited as I used to love those movies as a kid. Oh well, maybe next time, as Relax Gaming’s Cowabunga Dream Drop is actually a surfing-themed slot, and after a bit of digging, it is a word used by those bodacious surfer dudes as they ride the crests of waves, fall off, and repeat the process. As the title suggests, it’s also the latest addition to the Dream Drop progressive jackpot network that could theoretically pay up to €10 million – not bad at all, as I’m sure you’ll all agree! As for the core specs of Cowabunga Dream Drop, it has a 93.99% RTP, a max win of 6,000x, 5-reels, 3-rows, and 243 ways to win as standard, but with the chance for up to 3,087 on any given spin thanks to a Sync and Expand feature.

We’d all like to win millions, but in reality, most of us will not. Still, the Dream Drop jackpot isn’t the only reason to play this slot, as it also has several features that might appeal to some of you. For instance, the three middle reels can randomly increase their height to a maximum of seven positions, leading to as many as 3,087 ways to win. Those reels also sync, meaning the same symbols in the same place on each – enabling the possibility of some big wins if the first reel delivers the correct symbols. During the free spins bonus, the Sync and Expand feature is guaranteed on every spin – although that’s about all you get in terms of extras during that bonus. Finally, there’s the Dream Drop Jackpot Bonus Game, which, once triggered, will guarantee you win one of the five jackpots.

Surf’s up, dude! Why not see if you can catch some waves playing the Cowabunga Dream Drop slot demo below? While you cannot win the jackpots (at least the real money ones), you can still see if you can catch a few good waves and hopefully a win or two as well!

Cowabunga Dream Drop Slot Paytable

Relax Gaming releases a new Dream Drop jackpot online slot each month, and the network now has enough titles to rival Microgaming’s Mega Moolah and Playtech’s Age of the Gods jackpot networks. There are at least 25 Dream Drop slots in the series, and I fully expect that number to continue to increase. We’ve reviewed many of those slots here at Demoslot, and the two that earned our best ratings were Money Train Origins Dream Drop and TNT Tumble Dream Drop. The former is my favourite, as it offers the popular Money Cart bonus game, which features special symbols carrying a range of modifiers that can help you win big.

Anyway, let’s get back to the task at hand, reviewing the latest Dream Drop slot in the series to discover if it is as good as the above titles or if it’s better left alone. Before I get into the features and everything else, I’ll hop over to the paytable to give you the rundown on the symbols and their payouts. They don’t look that great, in all honesty, as the top symbol payout is 2x the stake, shared by both the Wild symbol and the Ginger-Haired Surfer Dude when lined up five times across a payway. The Surfer Dudette on a purple background offers 1x for a five of a kind win, whilst the Green Surfer Dude and Other Surfer Dudette pay 0.8x and 0.6x. It’s nice to see low-paying symbols that are not playing cards, but the Red and Orange Fish (0.2x) and Green and Blue Fish (0.15x) will hardly set the world alight when they do come in.

The Cowabunga Dream Drop slot has staking options that should suit most of you. You can wager from €0.20 and €100.00 per spin, and choosing your preferred option is possible in one of two ways – clicking the current bet and scrolling up or down or using the + and – buttons to either side.

Cowabunga Dream Drop Slot Base Game

Cowabunga Dream Drop Slot Base Game

This slot’s base theme will take you to a luscious-looking beach featuring palm trees, sun, and plenty of surfable waves. The five reels of the game are located within a vast wave and, at standard, offer 3-rows and 243 ways to win, although, as you’ll find out shortly, it’s possible to increase those ways up to 3,087. Standard base game wins come your way whenever three or more matching symbols land on consecutive reels from left to right.

Sync & Expand Mechanic

One of the biggest selling points of this slot is the Sync & Expand mechanic that can increase the ways to win up to a maximum of 3,087. On any given spin, two or three of the middle rows can expand their rows up to as many as seven high, obviously increasing the ways to win in the process. The reels also sync, meaning they all feature the same symbols in the same positions and in the same order.

Nudge

Another modifier is the Nudge feature that will randomly nudge reels downwards to add another symbol to a winning combo.

Cowabunga Dream Drop Slot Bonus Features

Playing any progressive jackpot slot could award you a life-changing sum of money, and sure, it can and does happen, but most of the time, your wins will come from the base game and the free spins bonus game. To trigger the latter, you’ll need to land two scatters anywhere in view.

Free Spins

Once you trigger the bonus, you’re initially given five free spins, but you’ll also receive an additional spin each time a scatter symbol lands on the fifth reel. The best thing about the bonus spins is that the middle three reels will sync and expand on every spin.

Dream Drop Jackpot

If you were wondering why the RTP of 93.99% is so low in comparison to the majority of other slot games, it is because of the progressive jackpots you stand a chance of winning. 12% of every spin bet contributes to those Rapid, Midi, Maxi, Major, and Mega jackpots – the latter seeds at €500,000 and can eventually grow as big as €10 million. As for the others, they seed at €1, €5, €100, and €25,000, respectively.

You’ll get your chance to win one of those jackpots when a DD symbol lands on each reel during the same spin to trigger the Dream Drop Jackpot bonus game. If you’re lucky enough to land the required symbols, you’re now guaranteed to win something – though, let’s face it, winning the big one will take quite a bit of luck. You’re whisked away to a new set of 5×5 reels, each representing one of the jackpots. Each has a different number of positions that need filling to win its particular jackpot. As you’ve probably guessed, the Mega requires all five positions filled with DD symbols, while the Rapid, Midi, Maxi, and Major need 1, 2, 3, and 4. You win the jackpot of the reel that fills up first.

Pros

  • The Sync and Expand mechanic increases winning potential during the base game and free spins.
  • It is another good-looking slot from Relax Gaming.

Cons

  • It's not among the best in the series, in my opinion.

Cowabunga Dream Drop Slot Review Final Thoughts

The Cowabunga Dream Drop slot is another worthy addition to Relax Gaming’s rapidly expanding range of jackpot slots, but if I am honest, it's far from my favourite. The Sync and Expand mechanic and the increasing ways to win it can create is an interesting part of the game, but aside from that, there’s not an awful lot going on.
