Slot Overview

Colt Lightning Inferno is an American-Western-style slot by Play’n GO, with the game focusing on two main bonus rounds, although there are other random feature triggers that can activate within the gameplay. With a whopping max win of 50,000x the bet, will this be a slot game that catches or the eye? Or another generic title not fit for purpose? Let’s dig in and learn more.

Gameplay & Bonus Features

Colt Lightning Inferno is a 5-reel, 4-row online slot with 1,024 ways to win, with payouts awarded when three or more matching symbols connect from left to right, starting from the leftmost reel first. Staking options range from a min/max of €0.10/€100, whilst the slot features a disappointingly low RTP of just 95%.

The main mechanic in Colt Lightning Inferno revolves around the inferno core, which collects bonus inferno coins whenever they appear on the reels. These coins come in a few different forms and can award a variety of boosts that increase the value of the feature when they are activated.

Reward boost coins carry multipliers ranging from x1 up to x5, while power boost coins represent the game’s fixed prize tiers. These include mini (x10), minor (x25), major (x250), and the top grand prize worth x1000 the total bet. There is also a mystery boost coin which only reveals its value once the feature is active, turning into either a reward boost or a power boost.

Whenever these prizes are awarded, their multiplier is applied to the current stake.

Hold n’ Load Feature

The hold n’ load feature can randomly trigger during the base game whenever a bonus inferno coin is collected. When this happens, the reels shift into a respin mode where only bonus inferno coins can land.

Players begin with three respins, and each time a new coin lands on an active row, the respin counter resets back to three. Coins stick in place once they appear, gradually filling the grid as the feature progresses.

At the start, the lower rows are locked. Additional rows unlock as more coins are collected, with the fifth, sixth, seventh, and eighth rows opening after reaching specific coin totals. This allows the feature to expand and create more space for additional prizes.

During this mode, power boost prizes can also appear, giving players the chance to land the game’s larger fixed jackpots.

Lightning Blaze Feature

The lightning blaze feature is triggered when the horseshoe symbol lands on reel three.

When activated, several fiery frames appear randomly across the reels. These frames highlight symbols and transform everything inside them into a single type of animal symbol, which can quickly create multiple matching combinations across the grid.

The number of frames that appear can vary, with anywhere from three to twenty being added during the feature.

Fire Free Spins

Landing three fireball scatter symbols triggers the fire free spins round. These scatters appear only on the middle reels, and when the feature begins, the grid expands by adding an extra row.

Players start with eight free spins, and additional spins can be collected whenever another fireball scatter appears during the feature. Each extra scatter adds one more spin, allowing the total to build up to a maximum of 47 spins.

During the round, colt symbols transform into fire colt symbols, which pay double their usual value. The lightning blaze feature can also still trigger here if the horseshoe symbol appears, adding even more potential combinations.

Another key change is that special fire frames can land during the bonus and remain locked in place for the entire session. When the final spin ends, every fire frame converts into the same animal symbol, often creating a final burst of wins before the feature concludes.

Theme & Design

The old American outback west is a theme that many game developers have used in the past and, much to my surprise, continue to stick with today. As we’re all aware by now, Play’n GO are considered to be a premium iGaming studio, so the graphics and overall production of Colt Lightning Inferno is good, but at the same time, any slots in this style from 2025 onwards do feel a touch lazy.

That’s just my opinion, though, and if these are a regular on your playlist, then Fire Stampede Ultimate by Pragmatic Play might appeal to you, or Buffalo Rising Megaways, created by Blueprint Gaming.
