Game Overview

We reviewed the first Coin Quest game roughly six months ago, and the slot was so much fun that I have still been playing it occasionally to this day. I may not have finished my first quest yet, but Slotmill has decided that the time has come to step out on a second – and who am I to argue? This sequel ups the ante in several ways; the RTP is slightly higher at 96.18%, the top win has received a significant boost to 15,000x your bet, and even the playfield is now larger in both dimensions.

Coin Quest 2 is a full-on grid slot featuring cascading wins (or avalanches, as Slotmill prefers to call them) along with a cluster-pays payout mechanic. The special coin symbols are back, now with instant cash prizes of up to 500x the current stake, and they are now much easier to land thanks to the collect meter, which is present in both the base game and bonus round. Five different powerups can drop onto the reels as part of any spin, each with its own special feature that we will discuss in detail later on. There are both regular and super free spin bonus rounds, which can be activated at will using the Fast Track bonus buy facility.

It’s time to step out into the jungle on a quest for coins, guys, so grab your backpack… we may be out there for a while! Our free demo slot of Coin Quest 2 is available to play below.

Coin Quest 2 Slot Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols

Coin Quest 2 Slot Paytable
Coin Quest 2 slot paytable

The theme of Coin Quest 2 is very similar to the original Coin Quest, taking place in what could be the dense forests of the Amazon. This is a familiar setting that we’ve seen used in other excellent online slots, such as Microgaming’s recent Jungle Fiesta or Jungle Empire. I can’t knock the presentation shown here – everything is well-drawn, the sound is atmospheric, and the paytable and other information pages are well-written. That said, Slotmill certainly isn’t going to be winning any awards for originality here, but that’s not a deal breaker as far as I’m concerned.

The highest-paying clusters of 16 or more symbols boast some impressive payouts, but those will show up so infrequently that it seems sensible to provide a couple of other numbers for context here. The highest-paying purple mask is worth 75x your bet for a maximum 16-symbol cluster, 40x for 14-15, or 20x for 11. The red mask will pay you 30x/20x/9x for the same cluster sizes, followed by the green mask at 22.5x/15x/8x, and finally, the blue mask at 20x/12x/7.5x. Playing card suits have been used for the low-paying symbols, and they are worth between 15x and 9x your bet for a maximum 16 symbol cluster. Slotmill has also colour-coded the suits to match those of the masks, making it easier to remember which colours are the most valuable.

There is a reasonable range of wagers available starting at a minimum of €0.20 per round, with plenty of intermediate bets before reaching the maximum of €50.00 per spin.

Base Game & Modifiers

Coin Quest 2 Slot Base Game
Coin Quest 2 slot base game

Fans of the first Coin Quest game should feel instantly familiar with Coin Quest 2, but upon closer inspection, there are a few subtle differences in the base game of each machine. The most obvious of these has to be the enlarged playfield, now composed of six reels of six rows each. As this is a grid slot, there are no paylines or payways necessary in this game, and winnings are instead awarded for landing five or more matching symbols on adjacent grid positions.

Coin Cluster

As well as the standard symbols we discussed earlier when looking at the paytable; Coin Quest 2 also includes many special coin symbols which work slightly differently. Each coin has a cash value printed on it, and whenever a cluster of five or more coins forms on the board, those values are added together before being awarded to the player.

When a coin cluster is removed from the playfield, a new coin worth the sum of the previous winning cluster is automatically added to the grid. This potentially creates a means of producing exponentially larger wins, although, in my experience, it was quite challenging to create a second or third cluster with the larger value replacement coins

Collect Meter

On the right of the playfield, you can spot the collect meter, which fills by one point for every winning symbol cluster removed from the grid. When the collect meter reaches its full capacity of 25 steps, a special feature is triggered that will scatter coins and wild symbols across the entirety of the reel set.

It is also possible to overcharge the meter by reaching 50 steps on a single game round, resulting in an even larger explosion of coins and wilds. However, I never managed this during testing, so I suspect this may be a fairly uncommon event.

Power Ups

Five special powerup symbols can drop onto the reels in both the base game and during the two free spins modes:

  • Meter Charge: Adds 5, 10, or 20 steps to your collect meter before transforming into a wild symbol.
  • Wild Mask: Adds several wild symbols to the playfield in random positions before transforming into a wild symbol.
  • Coin Mask: Adds several coin symbols to the playfield before transforming into a wild symbol.
  • Transform Mask: A random symbol is chosen from the paytable, and all occurrences of that symbol currently visible will be transformed into a higher paying symbol. Like the other powerups, the Transform mask will change into a wild symbol after it has finished modifying the playfield.
  • Super Mask: The super mask does not take action immediately and lies dormant until no more winning combinations are possible on the grid. At that point, the super mask will scatter coins across the playfield before collecting the values of each coin to create a multiplier. After your winnings have been paid, the super mask will transform into another coin worth the total of all previously created coins. Yes, the super mask is a little bit super!

Coin Quest 2 Slot Bonus Features

Coin Quest 2 Slot Free Spins Feature
Coin Quest 2 slot free spins feature

Two free spin modes are available in Coin Quest 2; the regular Free Spins are triggered by hitting three bonus symbols during the base game, while the Super Free Spins require you to land two bonus symbols plus one super bonus symbol.

Free Spins

After activating this feature, the game will award you eight free spins and set your collect meter to zero. A progressive win multiplier is enabled in this mode, increasing in line with the value of the collect meter. The multiplier and collect meter do not reset between spins whilst the bonus round is active.

A special “plus one” symbol is also present on the reels in this mode, allowing you to top up your remaining spin counter. Hitting a single super bonus symbol will upgrade the remainder of your free spins to the enhanced Super Free Spins, as well as topping up your remaining spin counter with four additional spins.

Super Free Spins

The Super Free Spins play similarly to the regular variant, but any coins not included in a winning combination will accumulate at the bottom of the playfield for the entirety of the bonus round. This allows these coins to be used on subsequent spins to help form larger coin clusters, making it much easier to hit consecutive coin clusters with ever-increasing values.

Fast Track Bonus Buy

Fast Track Bonus Buy Feature

Slotmill has packed plenty of options into their Fast Track bonus buy facility, making it all the more frustrating for players such as myself who cannot access them due to the laws of my jurisdiction.

For those of you who aren’t so unlucky, the following options are available:

  • Gamble Feature: For 140x the selected bet, you can trigger a game round with a 20% chance of Super Free Spins, 30% chance of regular Free Spins, or a 50% chance of hitting neither.
  • Super Free Spins: Guarantees one set of Super Free Spins at the cost of 500x the current bet.
  • Free Spins Bonus: Purchase a regular Free Spins bonus round for 100x the normal price per spin.
  • 2+ Power Up Symbols: Guarantees that at least two powerup symbols will land on the next spin at the cost of 40x the selected bet.
  • 1+ Power Up Symbol: Guarantees at least one powerup symbol will land during the next game round for 5x the selected bet.

Coin Quest 2 Slot Review Final Thoughts

I was a big fan of the first Coin Quest game, but Slotmill has managed to usurp their previous effort in just about every possible way. There are so many great features included here that it’s a mystery to me how the developer squeezed them all out of the available RTP! Don’t miss this top-quality sequel from Slotmill.
