Game Overview
Having lived abroad for many years now, I’ve managed to build up a reasonable tolerance to spicy foods, although compared to the locals, I’m still an absolute amateur. So, will I be able to take the kick from Playtech and their slot Chiloco, a 5-reel game featuring the hold & win mechanic and wins of up to 5,000x? Join me as we explore the game further to find out.
Theme & Design
Like most Playtech slots, Chiloco is relatively simple in design, with the backdrop to the game being a Mexican street with the reels plastered in the centre, so hardly a game that screams innovation. However, this simplistic strategy seems to work well for the studio, so why fix something that’s not broken, as the saying goes?
We’ve got stacks of Mexican-themed online slots here at Demoslot for you to try if Chiloco has put you in the mood for more today, but if you’re too lazy to search through that section for something to play, I’d suggest going old school and having a few spins on Big Time Gaming’s Extra Chill Megaways.

Chiloco Gameplay & Features
Playtech’s Chiloco is a 5-reel, 4-row online slot game with 1,024 ways to win and an RTP of 96%. Standard betting options start from a minimum of €0.20 a spin to a maximum of €300, although it’s highly likely that upper limit will be restricted to far lower amounts at pretty much every online casino.
Onto the features next, and in the base game all silver and red sun symbols that land will stick in place. If you hit another on the next spin, then again, they will all remain in the same position. However, once you fail to land a new one, the locomotion aspect of the game kicks in, and all the symbols that were sticky will move down one position. If at any time 6 silver suns are on the reels at once, their values will be added up and paid out as a prize.
The main bonus in Chiloco is a Hold & Win feature, triggered when 6 sun symbols land on the reels and at least one of them is red. The bonus begins with 3 respins with the bottom section of the playfield coloured purple; this is the win zone. Any silver suns that make it to this area are added to your bankroll, whilst any red suns that make it this far will replenish your spin count back to 3. The bonus will end when the spins reach zero.
Pros
- Easy to understand and simple to play.
- Features the Hold & Win engine, a popular mechanic with players.
- The loco mechanic does at least bring something unique to the game.
Cons
- Below-average RTP.
- There are so many Hold & Win games to choose from already.
Chiloco Slot Review Final Thoughts
With so many Hold & Win slots to choose from, it was always going to be hard for Chiloco to make any kind of lasting impression, and whilst it does bring something slightly unique to the table with the loco aspect of the game, it's still not all that entertaining, and I think it's a title you'll soon get bored of.
