Game Overview
This relatively new table game has only been available on the casino floor since 2000 – roughly the same amount of time as Let It Ride. As the name suggests, Casino Hold’em is heavily based on the social Poker game Texas Hold’em; if you are already familiar with the latter, you should have no problem getting to grips with the former. The variant we are looking at today was produced by BGaming and offers a 98.75% RTP alongside a top payout of 100x the total bet, which is awarded for hitting a Royal Flush.
This isn’t the only Hold’em-inspired table game produced by BGaming, as the developer has previously released a very similar title, Texas Hold’em… I’m sure that won’t cause any confusion at all guys! Casino Hold’em is my preference between the two, as there’s just a lot more going on compared to Texas Hold’em. For example, you can opt to play the AA bonus side bet as well as the main game if you wish, and whilst Texas Hold’em only pays even money regardless of the value of your hand, Casino Hold’em features a varied paytable.
This has to be the perfect casino table game for experienced poker players, in my opinion – check it out for yourself with our free demo of Casino Hold’em, available to play below:
Casino Hold’em Graphics & Features
There is very little difference in graphics between this release and the other BGaming table games I have looked at in the past. It’s a very functional user interface with few bells and whistles, but the 3D appearance of the cards and table is still reasonably attractive. Comparing Casino Hold’em with releases from other developers, such as Habanero’s title, Three Card Poker, I’d score both games somewhere around a 7/10 in terms of their graphics. More importantly, this game has a decent selection of payouts that range between 1x and 100x the total bet – let’s take a look at the paytable in a little more detail next.
There are two distinct paytables available in Casino Hold’em – one of the regular bet and another attached to the AA Bonus bet. The most significant difference between the two is that the AA Bonus Bet is always paid according to the paytable, whilst the Ante bet requires the dealer to qualify – more on that in the next section. For now, let’s concentrate on the raw numbers – the regular (or ‘Ante’ bet) paytable begins with a 1:1 payout for hitting a pair, two pairs, or a straight, followed by 2:1 for a flush, 3:1 for a full house, 10:1 or four-of-a-kind, 20:1 for a straight flush, and finally 100:1 for the royal flush. As for the AA Bonus paytable, you’ll need at least a pair of Aces to receive any returns from this bet – that pair, along with two pairs and a straight, are all worth 7:1, whilst a flush will award 20:1, a full house is 30:1, four-of-a-kind is 40:1, a straight flush is 50:1, and the royal flush is once again 100:1. With both bets in play, this gives Casino Hold’em a theoretical maximum jackpot of 200x the total bet.
How To Play Casino Hold’em
As with all of BGaming’s previous table games, a round of Casino Hold’em always begins with you using a selection of chips presented at the bottom of the screen to place an initial wager. In this game, there are two possible betting spots – one labelled ‘ante’ and another for the ‘AA Bonus’ bet. You can opt to play either of these during each round or both of them at the same time. After clicking deal to start the round proper, you will be dealt two-hole cards; at the same time, three community cards – known as the ‘flop’ – will also be dealt in the centre of the table.
If you chose to make the ‘AA Bonus’ bet, the value of the five cards which are now visible will be used to determine if you have won anything according to the paytable ranking. The game will now offer you the chance to either fold or make a second raise bet of double your initial wager. If you choose to fold, your initial bet will be lost; if you make the raise, the remaining two community cards will be dealt, and the dealer’s pocket hand will be turned over to reveal the round’s final outcome. The dealer must have at least a pair of fours in order to qualify – if he does not, you will only be paid even money on your ante and raise bets. If the dealer does qualify, the full values shown on the paytable can be won.
Staking Options
The amount you can bet on table games will often vary from one casino to the next. In this case, however, the minimum/maximum limits of €1.00/€100.00, which BGaming has implemented into Casino Hold’em, are likely to be available wherever you find the game on offer. Keep in mind that you will need to make a second wager of between €2.00 and €200.00 to reach the end of the round too.
Pros
- Higher than average payouts for a casino table game.
- Attractive graphics and presentation.
- The best of the Hold’em-based table games.
Cons
- The dealer has to qualify for the paytable to come into force, which can sometimes lead to a lot of frustration – it’s difficult enough to hit a hand in the first place!
Final Thoughts
Even if you felt disappointed after playing BGaming’s previous Texas Hold’em table game, do not let that stop you from giving this one a try. The paytable with prizes of up to 100x makes Casino Hold’em a lot more fun to play, in my view, and the ‘AA Bonus’ bet is also a worthwhile addition. If you’re tired of the same old table games, this one makes a nice change from Blackjack and the like.
