Game Overview

Atlantic Digital is back with a sequel to one of their most successful releases, and Candy Mine Megaways looks set to ramp everything up: there are more features, more jackpots, more ways to win, and a LOT more chaos! With a maximum win potential of up to 15,000x, is the game worth playing? Let’s find out.

Theme & Design

Candy Mine Megaways takes the original Candy Mine’s playful, sugary theme and, well, puts it on steroids! The action unfolds in a candy-coated cavern, and you’ll see giant gumdrops and lollipods in the background. Above the reels you’ll see a collection-mechanic chest and the game’s six jackpots.

Visually, it’s quite hard to compare Candy Mine Megaways to other slots, but we guess it does have some similarities to titles like Sugar Rush and Sweet Bonanza. Still, Candy Mine Megaways looks pretty unique, and it’s definitely more detail-orientated than either of the games we just compared it to!

Candy Mine Megaways Gameplay & Bonus Features

Candy Mine Megaways is played on a 6-reel grid with a Megaways mechanic, so there are between 2 and 7 symbols per reel. This means there can be up to 117,649 ways to win active on each spin! You can bet between €0.20 and €40 per spin, and the game pays both left-to-right and right-to-left. The RTP is 94.31%.

Now, every winning combination triggers cascading reels, removing all contributing symbols and dropping new ones down. You’ll also notice Collection Tokens landing quite a lot. These can land on top of any symbol, and when they appear, they’re added to the cart above the reels, with any token randomly able to trigger the game’s free spins bonus.

The Respin Bonus triggers when Respin symbols land on reels 1 and 6. The number shown on reel 6 tells you how many respins you get. During this feature, the game switches to a win-both-ways mechanic. Plus, after every winning combo, the winning symbols are removed. If you manage to remove all symbols, you’ll trigger the Sweet Treat Wheel Feature.

The Sweet Treat Wheel is a three-level bonus wheel where you can win jackpots, free spins, or a “level up”. Level 1 contains Micro, Mini, and Minor jackpots, plus Free Spins and Level Up. Level 2 contains Mini, Minor, Major, Free Spins, or Level Up. Level 3 contains Minor, Major, Mega, Candy Jackpot or Free Spins. If you land on the “Level Up” segment, you simply move up to the next wheel.

The free spins bonus can also be triggered directly via Collection Tokens. Once triggered, you choose from four options:

  • 10 free spins with a +1 multiplier per cascade
  • 8 free spins with a +2 multiplier per cascade
  • 6 free spins with a +3 multiplier per cascade
  • A random option awarding 6, 8, or 10 free spins, with multiplier increases of +1, +2, or +3

The free spins feature pays both ways, too. It uses the familiar Megaways unlimited multiplier mechanic, with the multiplier increasing with each cascade and not resetting between wins.

Now, Jackpot symbols can also land during the free spins bonus. If one lands on reel 1 and one on reel 6, you’re taken to the Jackpot Wheel, which then spins for a guaranteed fixed jackpot win. The amounts you can win are:

  • Micro: 30x
  • Mini: 75x
  • Minor: 225x
  • Major: 600x
  • Mega: 3,000x
  • Candy Jackpot: 15,000x

Ante Bet/Bonus Buy

Candy Mine Megaways also contains an Ante Bet option. This increases your base game stake by 40% and doubles your chances of landing the free spins bonus. There are also two bonus buy options available: 100x for the standard free spins or 200x for Super Free Spins, which awards 10 spins and +3 to the multiplier per cascade.

Pros

  • Great use of Megaways with a win-both-ways mechanic.
  • Unlimited multipliers during the free spins.
  • Three-tier Sweet Treat Wheel.

Cons

  • The RTP of 94.31% is quite low.
  • Almost IDENTICAL to Star Trek The Next Generation Megaways.
  • Jackpot values aren’t progressive

Candy Mine Megaways Slot Review Final Thoughts

Candy Mine was a decent release from Atlantic Digital, and it makes total sense that they would choose to release a sequel, especially in a Megaways format. What doesn’t make sense to us is why they’ve created two versions of the same game. Candy Mine Megaways is almost identical to Star Trek The Next Generation Megaways, another brand new game we’ve just reviewed.

Both offer the same bonuses and features, the same jackpot and wheel mechanics, and the only difference really is the theme. Even the RTPs are identical! Now, this isn’t totally unheard of, but it does make us feel as though they’ve been a bit lazy; why not have different concepts for each?

Anyway, putting that aside, Candy Mine Megaways is still a pretty solid game. We like the addition of the Sweet Treat Wheel. The four different free spin options mean you can, to some degree, control the volatility.
