Game Overview
Slot developer Inspired Gaming had plenty of well, inspiration for their latest online slot, Call of the Wild. The game shares plenty of similarities with existing wolf-themed machines, and those slots were already heavily derivative in the first place. Even the name of this game has already been used by another top-tier developer in the past, which made it a little tricky to search for any other relevant information on the game. However, regarding the vital stats of the slot, we’ve got 25 fixed paylines, a 94.53% RTP, and a maximum win that comes in at 375x bet.
A mystery symbol modifier has been included, and it’s a relatively good one too, as it can even transform your mystery symbols into huge stacks of wilds when it’s feeling generous! That’s even more useful than normal in this game, as landing six or more wild symbols anywhere on a single spin will also trigger the Wild Win and Spin bonus feature. This three-spin feature finishes with a final bonus spin that can land some of the game’s bigger wins. But more on that one later.

Call Of The Wild Slot Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols
If you haven’t been paying full attention to the online slots industry recently, then Call of the Wild might not look instantly familiar to you. For those who play far too many slots, however, I suspect you will already be aware of games such as the fantastic Wolf Legend Megaways by now! That game took plenty of inspiration from the legendary Buffalo Gold series of slot machines, so I guess you can’t really criticise Inspired too much for creating their own take on a theme that has already been copied to death!
Okay, so we’re not going to be firing shots at the developers for their hint of plagiarism on this occasion, but I certainly will be criticising them if their paytable doesn’t hold up! Starting from the top, the wild shares its 15x stake payout for six-of-a-kind with the highest-paying regular symbol, the wolf. The bald eagle and leopard are a distant second with their payout of 8x your bet for a full payline, whilst the bear and horse make the third and final high-paying pairing with a return of 5x your stake for all six symbols. As for the lower values, they are represented by four royal symbols. These are the J, Q, K, and Ace, all of which will pay 4x bet for a six of a kind hit.
The betting range is, quite frankly, a little bit insane – at least in the free-play mode. There’s no issue with the minimum bet of €0.20 per round, but at the opposite end of the spectrum, we have a maximum wager of €400.00 per spin! I suspect that this will be a lot lower when playing for real money at some, if not all, online casinos.
Base Game & Modifiers
The basic gameplay in Call of the Wild takes place on a huge reel set sporting six reels of four rows each. Most games that utilise a playfield of this size will use payways rather than paylines, so the 25 fixed paylines offered here make the slot somewhat unique. It also means that you are likely to hit lots of near misses during play, as so many of the potential paths from left to right are not connected for wins.
Mystery Symbol Modifier
Call of the Wild includes one solitary modifier, and if I’m honest, I didn’t find this to be especially exciting despite its potential to create a reasonably sized win. The mystery symbol modifier can trigger whilst any base game spin is in play, adding a random number of mystery symbols to the reels. Unfortunately, the paytable does not indicate if there are minimum/maximum numbers of mystery symbols that the feature can deliver.
When the reels stop spinning, all of the mystery symbols which are now visible will transform into one symbol chosen at random from the paytable. This could be the wild symbol, it could be a high-paying symbol, or it could just be a royal. In my experience, the more mystery symbols are added, the less valuable they tend to be, which certainly didn’t boost my opinion of the feature.
Call Of The Wild Slot Bonus Features
Landing six or more wild symbols during the base game will trigger the Wild Win & Spin feature. You can either catch six wilds as part of a regular spin, or you can also trigger the feature as a result of the mystery symbol modifier if it chooses to transform symbols into wilds.
Wild Win & Spin Feature
Immediately after the Wild Win & Spin feature activates, all the triggering wild symbols will become sticky and lock into their current positions. Your remaining spin counter is set to three, and the reels will begin to spin automatically.
You must land at least one additional wild symbol on each spin; otherwise, one life will be lost, and your remaining spin counter will be reduced. If you do manage to score an additional wild, your remaining spin counter is reset to three.
This process will repeat indefinitely until you either (a) run out of lives or (b) fill the entire reel set with wilds. The game will automatically pay you 375x your bet in the latter case.
If the screen is not filled with wild symbols at the end of the Wild Win & Spin feature, the game will award you one final free spin with all wild symbols locked in place. This final spin is an excellent opportunity to land a decent win, although if you consider that the game only pays 375x for a full screen of wilds, the potential of this final spin is obviously much less.
Free Spins
Many games with a three-spin feature will use that in place of a free spin-based bonus round, but SpinPlay has been generous this time and included both!
However, this isn’t the most exciting free spins feature, as there does not seem to be any advantage of playing these spins over a regular base game spin. It really is ten “free spins” – and not much else.
Call Of The Wild Slot Review Final Thoughts
Call of the Wild boasts well-drawn graphics and better-than-average presentation, but the winnings available in the game let it down. With a jackpot of just 375x your bet in the bonus round and no way to get anywhere close to that during the base game, you almost have to question where all the RTP has gone in this one! This slot might appeal to those who enjoy lower volatility slots, but everybody else should look elsewhere.
