Game Overview
Today, Playtech is back with another Chinese or Far-Eastern inspired online slot. The title screen of this game calls it “Caishen’s Temple”, whilst the main screen also includes the text “Qin’s Empire: Caishen’s Temple”, so it’s a little unclear which of these is technically correct. However, let’s not worry too much about the title, as what’s in a name, anyway? Instead, let’s look at the vitals – 50 fixed pay lines, a 97.08% RTP – extremely high for Playtech! – and a maximum win of 2,000x your bet… per spin!
As for the feature set, you can’t miss the four bonus jackpots listed horizontally across the top of the reel set. These range between 20x and 2,000x your bet but can only be won from inside a three-spin feature triggered by six or more cauldron symbols. Playtech has gone a little further in this game, too – there are two sets of cauldrons, one in green and another in gold. The gold variants have the added advantage of setting up four sets of reels for the bonus round rather than a single set if you trigger it via the green cauldrons. There’s even a free spin feature on top of all this as well!
I can imagine most of our readers enjoying spinning this online slot – why not give the game a try for yourself with our free demo slot of Caishen’s Temple, available below?
Caishen’s Temple Slot Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols
If slot developers decided to make a game based around the culture of Great Britain or the United States, I can’t imagine the results being particularly interesting. That isn’t the case when it comes to Asian nations, as these countries have a long and fascinating history that goes back for Millenia. It’s a terrible shame that so many Chinese artefacts were mindlessly destroyed during the so-called Cultural Revolution a few decades ago. Still, many more such artefacts did survive as they were taken across the strait to Taiwan when the Nationalist government fled the Communists at the end of the Chinese Civil War. See, that’s already far more interesting than the American Civil War, isn’t it!
But how interesting is the paytable? We have a payout of fifty coins for hitting all five scatter symbols, but that doesn’t seem like much, considering that each spin costs ten coins to play. I actually took a few minutes out at this point and spent a while spinning the game and recording my results to make sure they lined up with the figures on the paytable, but unfortunately, there was no mistake. Topping out the regular symbols is a scary-looking black cat with a return of 4x the bet for each completed pay line of five-of-a-kind, followed by the curved gold ball at 2.5x. A golden frog is next, with a return of 2x for all five, followed by the blue statue at 1.5x and the Chinese lantern at 1x. Again, these payouts all feel shockingly small to me, especially as the symbols are not even stacked in this game. Of course, you can win on up to 50 pay lines simultaneously, but even a full screen of the highest-paying black cat would still only be worth 200x the bet.
Wager selection is performed by changing the coin value from a minimum of a penny to a maximum of €50.00 per coin. This translates into minimum/maximum bets of €0.10 and €500.00 per round, respectively, but I expect many online casinos will enforce a lower maximum bet than this. It feels worth mentioning that at €500.00 per spin, the Grand jackpot would be worth a cool million!
Base Game & Modifiers
We would not have much to discuss regarding the base game of Caishen’s Temple if it wasn’t for the highly unusual decision to implement 50 fixed pay lines on a standard sized 5×3 playfield. Because of the large number of paylines, I often found myself hitting a win on a spin that I was sure was worth nothing, which is always a pleasant surprise!
Playtech has not implemented any base game modifiers or features, but three unique bonus rounds can be triggered by three different sets of scatter symbols which we will discuss in the next section.
Caishen’s Temple Slot Bonus Features
The primary bonus round in Caishen’s Temple is a free game feature triggered by landing three or more temple symbols anywhere on the reels. The secondary bonus is a three-spin feature triggered by landing six or more cauldron symbols or five or more cauldrons whilst in the primary bonus round.
Qin’s Empire Feature
There are two variants of this feature – collecting Jade cauldrons will trigger the regular feature, whilst Gold cauldrons will trigger the “super” version instead.
- Jade Cauldron – Hit six or more jade cauldrons during the base game to trigger the regular collect and unlock feature. Eight or more cauldrons will unlock a second screen automatically, whilst collecting 16 or 32 cauldrons during the feature will automatically unlock a third or fourth screen.
- Gold Cauldron – If you land six or more gold cauldrons during the base game, you will automatically trigger a super bonus round where all four screens are unlocked from the beginning.
Both modes are three-spin features where you begin the bonus with three spins on your counter and need to hit at least one more cauldron on each spin to reset the counter back to three. Each cauldron is worth between 1x and 15x your bet, or one of the four jackpot prizes.
Free Games Feature
Saving the best until last, three or more temple scatter symbols will trigger nine free spins with several unique advantages over regular base gameplay:
- Only five cauldrons are required to trigger the Qin’s Empire Feature, rather than six during the base game.
- All Caishen symbols will expand to fill the entire reel where they land.
- Three or more temple symbols will add an additional nine free spins to your remaining counter.
Caishen’s Temple Slot Review Final Thoughts
A beautifully presented online slot that is only let down by the small size of the wins on the paytable. This game might be perfect for keeping your balance ticking over as you try to beat a wagering requirement, but it isn’t going to leave you with a massive withdrawal at the end of the night.
