If you’ve ever been to the casino floors of Las Vegas or even just watched the odd video on YouTube of people playing the slot machines that they have over there, then there’s a decent chance you have seen somebody playing one of the Buffalo range of games created by Aristocrat. These machines are some of the most popular games on the floors in Sin City, and I suspect this must be a major reason why the most popular variants of the game have never been released in an online format. This particular slot we’re taking a look at today is titled Buffalo Trail from provider Gamebeat and is a 6×4 reel variant with a 96.14% RTP and a top win of 5,000x.
There’s a single free spins bonus round in the Buffalo Trail video slot. Still, it’s a good one – you can win anywhere from eight to a hundred free spins, depending on the number of triggering scatter symbols, and the wild symbol gains an additional multiplier during this part of the game, too, ranging from 2x to 5x.
If you love the Buffalo slots or have ever wanted to play them, this is a good choice if you don’t have the option of flying off to Las Vegas. Aristocrat released the most basic version of the game several years ago, but even that is hard to find in my experience. Our free demo slot of Buffalo Trail makes for a far more entertaining time if you are interested in some Buffalo-based action!

Buffalo Trail Slot Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols
The Buffalo is believed to have been native to most of the world’s continents at one point in time. Still, today this animal can only be found in some parts of North America and some areas of Europe, where it has been reintroduced after being labelled as extinct in the wild many years ago. The Buffalo, or Bison, is a member of the Bovine family – the same group of animals as the cow – and is the largest species within that group. There are numerous places named after the Buffalo in the United States. Still, the animal is not native to the African Savannah as I had previously thought when writing about the Buffalo games in the past. A little research goes a long way; it would seem!
So how does the paytable of Buffalo Trail measure up against the Aristocrat games found on the floors of Las Vegas? Well, I can confidently say that this game is notably more generous as far as the overall RTP is concerned – most land-based slot machines have RTPs in the range of 88% – 94%, whilst the online average has been established at around 96% for some time now. There are five “high-paying” symbols, beginning with the Buffalo paying 7.5x your bet for six-of-a-kind, after which we have the bear paying 6.25x, the Wolf, also paying 6.25x, and then the Meercat and Eagle, both of which return 5x your stake for a full pay way. The wild and scatter symbols don’t have any specific payouts of their own, which is a shame, as most other Gamebeat slots do attach a payoff to the scatters at the very least. Still, I understand that the payout mechanics of a payways game are required to be very different from that of a game which uses traditional pay lines.
As far as the stakes are concerned, you have ten options when playing Buffalo Trail. The minimum bet is €0.40 per spin, with four further options taking you up to €2.00, after which things begin to ramp up quickly before maxing out at €40.00 per spin.
Base Game & Modifiers
Gamebeat’s Buffalo Trail is a 6×4 reel game with 4,096 ways to win. All of the symbols are stacked on the reels, making it easy to win many times from a single paid spin. As we established in the previous section, however, you’ll need to hit lots of winning pay ways simultaneously to end up with a big win, but the 2x, 3x, and 5x multipliers that show up in the bonus round do make things a little bit easier. Unfortunately, there aren’t any base game modifiers or features, but the bonus round does show up often enough that this didn’t bother me much while I was testing this slot.
Buffalo Trail Slot Free Spins Feature
The free games feature is triggered by hitting three or more scatter symbols during the base game, although just two scatters will add some extra free games to your remaining counter if you hit them during the free games feature itself.
During the main game, you can win 8, 15, 25, or 100 free games for 3, 4, 5, or 6 scatters, respectively. The same number of free games will be added to your remaining total during the free spins feature, with the exception of 2 scatters adding five spins to your remaining total if they occur as a re-trigger.
During the free spins, all wild symbols also gain a random multiplier of 2x, 3x, or 5x. These symbols appear on reels two through six but not on reel one, so it is impossible to hit a complete pay way of wild symbols.
Buffalo Trail Slot Review Final Thoughts
Buffalo Trail is an interesting alternative to the real Buffalo games offered by Aristocrat – it includes most of the features of one of the best versions of the game, so it should be extremely popular with online slot players once it becomes widely available. If you haven’t seen the Buffalo games before, give this one a try – it’s a worthy alternative.
