Game Overview

If you were to ever find yourself locked up in prison, I’d imagine the thought of busting out would be something you’d think about regularly, and with plenty of time on your hands to hatch the perfect escape plan, what would be your best ideas to regain your freedom? Well, whatever those answers may be, now is the time to put them to the test in the Nolimit City slot Breakout, a 5-reel game with 20 paylines, a free spins bonus round, and a maximum win of 20,000x the bet.

Theme & Design

For those of you who have wondered what a hi-tech prison might look like, Nolimit City have painted you a picture of their definition in Breakout, where the characters are certainly dressed with a futuristic look. However, as for the weaponry we see on the reels, these are still very much from our own time period, with hand grenades, dynamite, and Molotov cocktails being the munitions of choice. As for the overall design of Breakout, it is, generally, a nice-looking slot as you’d expect from Nolimit, but this is definitely not a premium release from the studio, and I’d imagine most who play this and are honest with themselves will agree on that.

We’ll be taking a closer look at the features shortly, but before we get there I’ll throw you a couple of game suggestions to move on to when you’re finished with today’s review. It makes perfect sense to stick with Nolimit and send you over to our San Quentin 2 demo, which is a highly volatile release with a 200,000x max win. And, for a 2nd choice, our PGDemo of Wild Heist Cashout is another fun crime thriller with stacked wilds and win multipliers.

Breakout Gameplay & Features

Nolimit City’s Breakout is a 5-reel, 4-row online slot with 20 fixed paylines and variable RTP models ranging from a high of 96.07% to a low of 92.11%. Players can choose to join the gameplay from a strong selection of standard betting options, starting at a minimum of €0.20 up to a maximum of €100.

We’re busting out of the lockup and into the features next, and whilst Breakout isn’t as bonus heavy or complicated around the gameplay like a large number of Nolimit slots, there are a good few things to look at, so let’s get stuck in and see what you’re going to experience.

Syndicate Multiplier

Each high symbol has a corresponding Syndicate Multiplier symbol linked to it. When the Syndicate Multiplier lands, it will transfer the multiplier onto all of the same high-paying symbols. If multiple Syndicate Multipliers of the same kind appear, each multiplier will be added to the corresponding high-paying symbol.

Syndicate multipliers are not additive; they apply to the total line multiplier. Multiplier levels for high-paying symbols: x2, x3, x5, x10, x25, x50 and x100.

Chain Reaction Respins

The respin can be triggered by landing at least 6 high-paying symbols of the same kind. During the respin, high-paying symbols that triggered the respin will remain sticky in their positions. Landing another high-paying symbol of the same kind that is already sticky or at least 6 high-paying symbols of another kind will retrigger a respin.

Every bonus symbol that appears on the initial spin or respin will be collected and contribute to advancing towards the bonus round. No wins are awarded during respins. Payout for the respin is awarded at the end of the respin feature.

Breakout Free Spins

Landing 3 bonus symbols will trigger 7 Breakout Spins. During this mode, Syndicate Multipliers are persistent between spins, and the respin mode behaves the same way as in the base game.

Clearout Spins

Landing 4 bonus symbols will trigger Clearout Spins. The bonus starts with 1 life for each high-paying symbol. During this mode, Syndicate Multipliers are persistent between spins, and the respin mode behaves the same way as in the base game.

When a Kill symbol lands, it will reveal either a high-paying symbol or a miss. If it reveals a high-paying symbol that is still active on the reels, those symbols will be removed.

When the Kill symbol lands and the last high-paying symbol is killed, a respin is awarded. All instances of that symbol on the reels will stick during the respins. The respin is triggered regardless of how many of the last high-paying symbols are there on the reels.

Once a high-paying symbol is eliminated, it will no longer appear in the remaining spins. Additionally, its multiplier will transfer to the highest-paying symbol which is still active.

Bonus Buy

Those who want to crank up the volatility levels and the risk can choose from the following enhanced bets and bonus buy options.

  • Bonus Booster: Higher chance of triggering a bonus – Costs 2x the base bet.
  • Mystery Syndicate Multiplier – Costs 20x the base bet.
  • 100x Syndicate Multiplier – Costs 100x the base bet.
  • Breakout Spins – Costs 80x the base bet.
  • Clearour Spins – Costs 300x the base bet.
  • God Mode – Cost 2000x the base bet.

Pros

  • Lots of enhanced betting and feature buy options.
  • Even though it's not a tier-one game, the jackpot is still 20,000x.
  • Not overcomplicated for a Nolimit slot, which is sure to please some.

Cons

  • RTP models drop as low as 92.11%.
  • Doesn't pack a punch like other NLC titles do.
  • God Mode makes a return, which some dislike.

Breakout Slot Review Final Thoughts

I think most would have expected Nolimit to develop more slots and increase the volume of titles on their upcoming roadmaps once they were bought out by Evolution, but when games are brought to market with more regularity, you have to accept that a portion of them are not going to stand up in terms of quality when compared to previous releases. That is where I'd put Breakout. Yes, it's visually ok and has a good selection of features, but I think even the most diehard of Nolimit City fans will class this as nothing more than a filler slot.
