Game Overview
Game provider Endorphina is ready to take us on somewhat of a spooktacular slotting experience in their blood tingling game titled Book of Vlad. This nail biting ten-pay line machine comes with a respectable RTP of 96.01% and an unspecified jackpot, although we suspect this will likely be around the 10,000x bet mark. I hope those facts have helped to dull your prior curiosity, and you’re ready to learn more about this game.
The base game offers a single set of book symbols that operate as wild and scatter symbols, whilst the primary bonus round will bring expanding symbols into play that can help to rack up some seriously impressive wins. Despite this being a ” book of slot “, Endorphina has added a couple of unique twists that elevate this machine slightly above its predecessors.
Those who are big fans of Book of Dead might not believe me, but you don’t have to take my word for it – you can fire up our free demo slot of Book of Vlad below and try it for yourself! This practice mode can access at any time on your desktop, tablet and mobile devices.
Book Of Vlad Slot Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols
Both Book of Ra and Book of Dead both utilised a similar theme, which could, in turn, be fairly described as something of a rip-off of Indiana Jones. Endorphina could have continued with that same look and feel but instead chose to mix things up somewhat by keeping the same dark vibe but using vampires and horror-style imagery in place of ancient Egyptian statues and explorers. I think I prefer the style of Book of Vlad overall and was even impressed by the quality of the music, which suits the graphics perfectly and never became repetitive when I was testing and reviewing the machine.
The developer has been kind enough to implement an automatically updating paytable into Book of Vlad, ensuring that you can quickly get a handle on the size of any potential winnings. I compared the paytable offered here against Book of Dead and was not surprised to discover that the numbers were mostly identical in both games. This means that the highest-paying symbol, Vlad himself, is worth 500x the current bet for a full pay line of five-of-a-kind, whilst the goblet will pay you 200x for all five, and the castle/goblet are both worth 75x. The scatter/wild combination symbol will pay you 200x your stake for all five anywhere on the screen, or 500x if you manage to hit them on a pay line.
I was amazed to discover that Endorphina allows you to select the number of pay lines you wish to play in this game, but maybe I shouldn’t have been – Book of Dead also allows you to do this, but it is an extremely rare option these days. With all paylines activated, the minimum bet is €0.10, or you can go as high as €100.00 per round if you wish.
Base Game & Modifiers
The base game pulls no punches, playing out exactly like the previous slots that it is based on (we’ll give up reminding you of that now!). This means you have a 5×3 playfield with ten paylines, although you can opt to play any number of lines you wish, whilst winnings are paid for combinations of three or more matching symbols starting from the left.
The combined scatter and wild symbol is a great inclusion whenever it shows up in an online slot, but it is the only real base game feature of note in Book of Vlad. The bonus game is where things begin to diversify and become interesting, so we’ll move straight on to that.
Book Of Vlad Slot Bonus Features
Three or more book scatter symbols will trigger a bonus round, with a 2x, 20x, or 200x cash prize offered for three, four, or five triggering scatters, respectively. The free spins feature felt relatively difficult to hit in this game, and while this may just be the result of bad luck, I couldn’t shift the feeling that it occurs less frequently than the bonus round offered by the other “Book” slots. However, there could be a good reason for this, as the bonus round has some unique twists. For a start, you only receive 7 free spins, to begin with, and you will need to win additional spins by filling up the symbol meters shown at the bottom of the screen.
The game labels this the “Expanding Bloody Symbols” feature, but they aren’t being rude to you – the symbols do become bloody, and drops will fill the meters for each of the game’s symbols shown at the bottom of the screen. When a meter is filled, it will set alight before adding two more free spins to your remaining counter. Additionally, each symbol with a full meter will become an expanding scatter symbol on the next free spin, making it much easier to hit a winning combination.
The advantage of this bonus round over that offered in Book of Dead is that you can make several symbols into expanding scatters, rather than just the one selected at the beginning of each feature in that game. Play’N’Go has already done this with their Legacy of Dead slot, so I suspect that Endorphina may have borrowed a few ideas from that game as well!
Book Of Vlad Slot Review Final Thoughts
Yes, it’s a shameless clone, and yes, it is also a fairly pointless one – Book of Dead and Legacy of Dead are available at almost every major online casino these days, after all. Despite this, there may well be some players who do not have access to Play’N’Go’s slots, or perhaps you may just prefer the theme of this game as I do. Whatever the case, it’s a solid slot that is brilliant in its simplicity. I’m signing off so I can get back to spinning it now.
