Slot Overview

Book of Dead GO Collect is a Play’n GO video slot that builds on the studio’s most successful release, Book of Dead. In this revamped version, you’ll find the classic expanding-symbol free spins bonus combined with a modern collect-style feature, with a doubled maximum win potential of 50,000x! With familiar mechanics given a fresh twist, does this updated Book of Dead formula do enough to stand out from the crowd? Let’s find out.

Theme & Design

Book of Dead GO Collect is pretty clearly designed to look as original as possible. The visual presentation stays firmly rooted in the iconic Play’n GO Egyptian style, with sandstone temples, hieroglyphs and the same familiar design you’ll instantly recognise.

Fans of the original Book of Dead will easily see the direction that the software provider has opted for, but there are some new additions, too, including the jackpots on the left-hand side of the screen and a slightly enhanced set of symbols. It feels more dynamic than, say, Book of Ra Deluxe, but does a nice job of keeping the classic old-school “Book of” theme intact, too.

Book of Dead Go Collect Gameplay & Bonus Features

Book of Dead GO Collect is played on a five-reel, three-row layout. There are ten fixed paylines, just like the original. You can bet between €0.10 and €50 per spin, and the RTP is slightly on the low side at 94.2%. However, even lower RTP configurations are available, too, so always make sure that, at the minimum, you’re playing the 94.2% version.

Landing 3, 4 or 5 Tomb Scatters anywhere awards 2x, 20x, or 200x your bet and triggers the Free Spins feature. You’ll then receive 10 free games, with the chance to re-trigger up to 80 in total. At the start of the feature, one regular symbol is randomly selected to become an Expanding Symbol, filling the reel when it lands and paying anywhere.

Now, where Book of Dead GO Collect differs from the original Book of Dead is its collection mechanic. In the base game, Gold Starters can appear attached to all symbols except the Tomb Scatter. Collecting these increases the chance of triggering the Treasure Vault, a respin-style bonus that starts with three respins.

During the Treasure Vault, only special Stater symbols with fixed multipliers, from 1x to 5x, and jackpots of up to 500x can land. (from 1x to 5x bet) and bonus values (up to 500x bet for the Grand) can land. Each new Stater resets the Respin count back to 3, and once the feature ends, the combined Stater values are paid as a total win.

After both bonuses, you can also choose to enter the Treasure Gamble, where you can try to double your winnings up to four times.

Pros

  • 10,000x maximum win potential.
  • Combines classic Book Free Spins with a modern Collect-style bonus.
  • Fixed jackpots worth up to 500x.

Cons

  • RTP of 94.2% is lower than average.
  • It’s a very familiar-looking game, with unoriginal mechanics.
  • Many players will feel “did we really need ANOTHER Book game?”

Book of Dead Go Collect Slot Review Final Thoughts

Look, we understand why Play’n GO refuses to let go of the Book of Dead franchise. It’s arguably the most successful video slot ever released online, and it remains the gold standard for the “Book of” style game. It’s only natural that the software provider would want to release spinoffs and milk the series as much as they can - but Book of Dead GO Collect, for us, just isn’t it.

What we WOULD have liked, would be if Play’n GO had taken the Book mechanic, and combined it with something original. This “3 Respin Collect-based feature” is getting old now, and it seems virtually every game developer is trying to push out as many games with this (frankly, boring)mechanic as possible.

Yes, we understand that as full-time slots reviewers, we may be slightly biased, but even players are beginning to get tired of these games - and it’s one of the reasons, we feel, why studios like Shady Lady, Nolimit City, and Hacksaw Gaming are doing so well right now, as they’re not (generally) pushing out re-hashed content.

Still, Book of Dead GO Collect does have a charm to it, and if you enjoyed the original, and like Respin-based bonuses, it’s not bad. The maximum win potential of 10,000x is double the original Book of Dead’s, but the low RTP of 94.2% is, for us, the final tipping point that turns this into a “no-play” game.
