Slot Overview
Book of Abyss is a demon-inspired “Book of” slot from Just Slots, and it’s built around classic expanding-symbol Free Spins plus a pretty unique (and very exciting) pre-bonus Gamble that can upgrade both your chosen expanding symbol and your starting multiplier. With an eye-watering maximum win potential of 150,000x… this is a game that MUST be given a closer look. Our findings? Let’s find out.
Gameplay & Bonus Features
Book of Abyss uses 5 reels, 3 rows, and 10 fixed paylines, and you can bet between €0.10 and €5 per spin. The listed RTP is 98.03%, though alternative versions also exist at 96.36%, 94.33%, and 92.42%, so it’s worth checking what version you’re playing.
Now, in keeping with most “Book of” slots, Book of Abyss doesn’t offer much in the way of base game action. Most win potential is found inside the Free Spins bonus, triggered by landing 3, 4, or 5 of the Scatter symbols anywhere in view. Now, before the free spins begin, one expanding symbol is chosen randomly, with a starting multiplier between 1x and 100x. Landing 4 Scatter symbols guarantees a 2x+ multiplier, while 5 Scatters guarantees a 10x+ multiplier.
Before the bonus begins, you’ll also see the option to gamble. Instead of the usual “double your win” approach, you can gamble on a wheel, with the goal of upgrading your expanding symbol or increasing your multiplier. It’s possible to start with the highest-paying symbol as the expanding one and a 100x multiplier, which is where things can get very interesting.
Now, during the bonus, the chosen symbol expands whenever it forms a win, and it doesn’t need to be adjacent to count, either. You can also re-trigger the feature: landing 2, 3, 4, or 5 additional Scatters awards +3/10/15/20 extra free games, respectively, with an additional multiplier of between 2x and 100x applied.
Bonus Buy & Ante Bet
Book of Abyss contains a few Feature Buy options. You can buy a 3 Scatter trigger for 100x, a 4 Scatter trigger for 300x, and a 5 Scatter trigger for 1,250x. There’s also a HotSpin (Ante Bet) that increases your base game stake by 300x and adds extra Scatters to the reels, making it easier to land the bonus round naturally.

Theme & Design
Book of Abyss doesn’t use the classic “dusty tomb” look and feel you may be used to in games like Book of Dead and Book of Ra Deluxe. Instead, you’ll be transported into an underground throne room, complete with a demonic queen sitting over a dark castle backdrop. For us, the game kind of gives off a Halloween vibe, but Just Slots has pulled it off well, and it’s definitely a game that’s playable all year round.
The game’s symbols are also a lot stronger than you’d expect from a “Book of” clone, and the low-value symbols include various runes, while the mid-paying ones include candles, rings, and a heart. The high-value symbols are a set of characters, and visually, we have absolutely zero complaints here!
Pros
- Absolutely insane maximum win potential of 150,000x.
- Extremely high RTP option of 98.03%.
- A nice twist on the classic “Book of” formula (largely thanks to the Gamble)
Cons
- RTP can dip as low as 92.42%.
- The base game is very boring; it is reliant on bonuses/wild help.
- A losing gamble costs you your entire bonus.
Final Thoughts
Book of Abyss is a very traditional “Book of” experience at heart, but it does an absolutely superb job of adding a twist, and to be honest, it’s so well done, this could, for us, be the best “Book of” game ever created, bar, perhaps, the original Book of Ra/Dead.
We absolutely love the Gamble feature. Yes, it’s dangerous; yes, it’s frustrating, and yes, you can lose a LOT. Make it to the top, though, and you really can hit some of the best wins you’re likely to hit on a non-progressive jackpot slot, and we don’t say that lightly here at Demoslot.
Now, of course, the volatility can be brutal; expect to lose a lot of gambles in a row (if you’re aiming for the top.) If you’ve got the stomach, though, and you’re prepared to endure the variance, Book of Abyss is a superb game and one of our favourites ever,, and that’s saying a hell of a lot.
