Slot Overview

Bonzo’s Bananza is a new release from Elk Studios, and the game combines Nudging Wilds, Respins, and Stacked Multiplier Monkey symbols, all played on a 5×5 grid with 259 ways-to-win. With a maximum win potential of 10,000x and plenty of X-iter feature buy options, like most Elk releases, there is a LOT going on, but is it too much? Or does it strike a good balance between action and understanding? The Demoslot team investigates.

Theme & Design

Bonzo’s Bananza is designed around quite a playful jungle-meets-temple theme, and you’ll see a cool, hip-hop-loving monkey as its star attraction. The backdrop features an Aztec-style ruin covered in vines and bananas, and the whole feel, or “vibe”, of the game is, in our opinion, more adventurous than cheeky, despite what Elk Studios may have been trying to do!

If you’re a fan of Elk Studios titles like Giraffalot or Man vs Gator, then Bonzo’s Bananza is probably right up your street, and the graphics are solid, regardless of whether you’re playing from a desktop computer or mobile device.

Bonzo’s Bonanza Gameplay & Bonus Features

Bonzo’s Bananza is played on a 5-reel, 5-row grid with 259 ways to win. Bets range from €0.20 to €100 per spin, the RTP is set at 94%, and it’s a high variance game, so all is pretty classic “Elk” here.

The real action comes from the wild-driven mechanics, which revolve around Monkey Wilds, Banana Wilds, Respins, and Multipliers. These features can also combine, too, which is where the game’s main win potential lies.

There are two types of Wilds in the game. Monkey Wilds are fully stacked symbols that nudge onto the reels and come with a random Multiplier added once the reels stop. When a Monkey Wild lands, it triggers a Respin and remains sticky during that respin. If multiple Monkey Wilds land, their Respins play out one-by-one, too.

Banana Wilds, on the other hand, are two-symbol-high nudging Wilds without a Multiplier. They move up or down the reels, triggering Respins until they leave the grid. When Banana Wilds interact with Monkey Wilds, they can increase the Monkey Wild’s Multiplier, too, which is where the base game’s large wins tend to come from.

The game’s Free Spins Bonus is triggered by landing 3+ Scatters, and this awards 5 free games. Landing 4 or 5 Scatters adds one or two extra Monkey Wilds on the first spin respectively. During the bonus, all Monkey Wilds are sticky for the duration of the feature, and any Respins that occur do not deduct from the Free Spins.

X-iter Feature Buys

Bonzo’s Bananza includes several X-iter feature buys. You can pay 2x your base game stake for an increased chance to trigger free spins, 10x to guarantee a Monkey Wild, 25x to guarantee two Monkey Wilds, 100x to buy standard Free Spins, or 500x to buy the Super Free Spins Bonus.

Pros

  • Decent max win of 10,000x.
  • Powerful Wild Multiplier and Respin mechanics.
  • Multiple feature buy options available.

Cons

  • Relatively low RTP of 94%.
  • Free Spins starts with just 5 free games.
  • Highly volatile in both base game and bonus.

Bonzo's Bananza Slot Review Final Thoughts

Bonzo’s Bananza takes a slightly different approach to what many players expect from Elk Studios, and while it’s still got a lot going on, it does, we feel, focus more on speed and simplicity over the overly complex rules/mechanics that we’ve seen in a lot of the studio’s previous releases.

The focus on Monkey Wild Multipliers and Banana Wilds and the interactions between them is actually quite exciting, and we like how it ensures that there is some decent win potential within the base game.

There’s no denying that Bonzo’s Bananza is volatile, however, and the below-average RTP of just 94% is likely to deter players who care about payout percentages; unfortunately, this is pretty much par for the course with recent Elk Studios releases.

However, despite a low RTP and volatile action, Bonzo’s Bananza is probably just about a game that we’d commit some time and money to; it looks fun, there’s clear win potential, and if you have the budget (and live in a region where they’re available), the X-iter options help to speed things up, too!
