Lucksome’s slot game Bon Bomb Luxpots may trick you into thinking this is just a standard game as the opening screen appears. However, Once the game has finished loading, the Megaways branding suddenly appears underneath the “Bon Bomb Luxpots” logo too. The familiar maximum of 117,649 pay ways further confirms this to be a Megaways game, whilst the RTP is a healthy 96.20%. The maximum win is quoted at 25,000x – a little lower than some other similar games, but more than enough to position this among the highest of high-variance online slots.
Unlike many other Megaways games, however, this is not just a straight clone of Big Time Gaming’s Bonanza Megaways. The ascending multiplier free spins that have been a regular feature of Megaways slots for years are gone in Bon Bomb Luxpots online slot, replaced by sticky symbols which will continue to accumulate as long as one more of them lands on each consecutive spin. This potentially makes it much easier to climb your way to the top of the secondary prize ladder – something that I experienced first-hand during my testing of this slot.

Bon Bomb Luxpots Megaways Slot Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols
Sweets are a curiously popular choice of theme for an online slot machine, possibly because of the enormous popularity of the mobile game Candy Crush during the past decade. Every developer has created at least one or two games based around sweets – or “candy” – during the last decade. Play’N’Go had a huge hit with their “Sweet Alchemy” online slot, and even Candy Crush itself has been turned into a slot machine earlier this year by Mascot Gaming. Microgaming took things to one possible conclusion with the release of their “Fruit vs Candy” online slot, which combined the allure of sweets-based slots with traditional fruit-themed symbols to create a game which featured everybody’s favourite treats. Let’s be honest though – most of us are far more interested in the payouts of the games we play than what symbols are used on the reel strips!
As far as payouts go, you always know that the numbers on the paytable of a Megaways game are not going to be particularly representative of how much you can potentially expect to win during a session playing the machine. This is because these games have so many pay ways – a maximum of 117,649 in this case – that no developer could ever include a symbol with a huge payoff if there is also the chance of scoring tens of thousands of winning pay ways of that symbol simultaneously.
With that being said, Bon Bomb Luxpots has a little surprise up its sleeve in the shape of the cake symbol, which pays out 40x your stake for a full pay way of six-of-a-kind. This may not sound like much, but it’s a huge number for a Megaways style game. Unsurprisingly, this one symbol seems to appear far less than all the others on the paytable and appears to be the one symbol that is not stacked on the reels. As if to immediately re-affirm this point, the second highest-paying symbol on the paytable is the chocolate doughnut which pays just 5x your stake for six-of-a-kind, which is then followed by the green gummy bear which halves this again to just 2.5x your stake for a full pay way of six symbols.
The secondary paytable displayed to the left of the reels shows a payoff of 1x your bet – effectively just returning your stake – for the minimum of three of the exploding “Bon Bomb” symbols. This list appears to max out at 5,000x your bet for 13 of these symbols, but the bonus round also includes multipliers that can double the amount that each of these combinations is worth. You must assume that this can only happen a maximum of two times, as the advertised maximum win of 25,000x your stake would be far surpassed if it was possible to double the value of these combinations three or more times.
It’s surprising to see that you can opt to bet as low as just €0.10 per spin in Bon Bomb Luxpots Megaways – an unusually low number for this type of online slot. It’s also interesting that Lucksome have chosen to limit the maximum bet per spin to €10.00 as well – again, an unusually low choice by this developer for this type of game. As far as I am concerned, however, these two numbers are perfectly adequate for all but the very richest 0.1% of online slot players.
Base Game & Modifiers
Before Big Time Gaming came up with their “Megaways” game format, it was common for pretty much every online slot machine to have a fixed number of pay lines or pay ways. The Megaways mechanic does away with this limitation and randomly splits each reel into a different number of segments for each spin.
There are six reels in Bon Bomb Luxpots, each of which can be divided into seven individual rows. The first and last reel can divide into seven rows as standard, whilst the middle four reels have an additional top row which is always present and moves horizontally instead of vertically – I’ve always wondered why Megaways slots work this way but have eventually concluded that it is for no other reason than to increase the unpredictability of each game round. It would help if you had a little bit of variety in a game like this, too, as there are no base game mods or features to speak of – you’ll be spending your entire session hoping to hit a bonus round, where it is much easier to hit the biggest wins.
Luxpots Candy Bombs
This special symbol acts as a scatter – any time you hit three or more of them anywhere on the screen, you will be paid following the paytable displayed to the left of the main reel set.
This secondary paytable indicates that it is possible to win up to 5,000x your bet for hitting 13 of these symbols organically within the base game. Still, I suspect that the odds of this ever happening are vanishingly small – the candy bombs become sticky during the bonus round, however, which exponentially increases your odds of hitting such a high number at once.
Bon Bomb Luxpots Megaways Slot Free Spins Feature
All six reels feature a scatter symbol in Bon Bomb Luxpots online slot, and you will need to hit at least four of these to trigger the main bonus round. When you do hit four, you will be awarded the minimum of 12 free spins, whilst five increases this to 17 spins, and the maximum of six grants you the highest prize of a monstrous 22 free spins. However, the extra free spins aren’t worth quite as much here as they are on other Megaways slots, as there is no ascending multiplier.
During the free spin bonus round, candy bombs will now stick between spins if at least one candy bomb lands on each consecutive spin. Furthermore, each candy bomb can have a multiplier of between 2x to 5x attached to it, which will increase the value of all prizes shown on the secondary paytable for the duration of your bonus round.
If you should hit a candy bomb with the 5x multiplier displayed next to it, the maximum combination of 13 candy bombs would now be worth the game’s jackpot prize of 25,000x.
Bonus Buy Feature
It’s incredibly frustrating as a UK citizen not to be able to use these options when playing for real money, but if you live in a jurisdiction where such options are not yet banned, then the feature is well worth taking advantage of in this game.
You can opt to purchase a four-scatter bonus round for 60x your stake, whilst a five-scatter bonus costs 100x, and a six-scatter feature costs an eye-watering 300x your bet. I don’t think that the top option is worth the cost, but the first two options seem pretty reasonable to me, bearing in mind the odds of winning bigger prizes during the free spin bonus round.
Pros
- A mix of features to appeal to all kinds of different players.
- High max win.
Cons
- For some it will be just another Megaways slot.
Bon Bomb Luxpots Megaways Slot Review Final Thoughts
Sticky symbols are one of my preferred features in any online slot – NetEnt’s Dead or Alive games are two of my favourite games of all time, so I love that Lucksome has chosen to add sticky symbols to the bonus round in this game.
I managed to hit 10 candy bombs during testing of this game – it almost felt too easy, so perhaps I was just lucky! Whatever the case, I recommend this game to fans of high variance slots and Megaways games – you really can’t go wrong with Bon Bomb Luxpots.
