Game Overview

Casino game provider Pragmatic Play’s Bloody Dawn is a vampire-themed video slot that combines unusual folklore stories with a Wild West twist. Set across 5 reels and 4 rows with 1,024 ways to win, this highly volatile slot comes with tumbling reels, multiplying wins, transforming gold symbols, and a maximum win potential of 5,000x.

Theme & Design

There’s something weirdly interesting about Bloody Dawn’s “dual” setting. It’s a very unusual theme, combining a Wild West genre with vampires and gunslingers, and we can’t say we’ve really seen anything like it before. Perhaps NetEnt’s Bloodsuckers Megaways gets close, or Wild West Duels, but really, there’s nothing out there that already uses this theme.

The reels themselves are set in a crimson blood moon design. In the backdrop you can see an eerie-looking wooden building, a tree, and some derelict farm tools on the left-hand side of the reels. It looks very “Pragmatic Play”, but we like that Bloody Dawn also feels slightly different, like the provider has stepped away from the look and feel that’s been so apparent in many of their recent slots.

Bloody Dawn Slot Gameplay & Bonus Features

Bloody Dawn is played on a five-reel, four-row layout. There are no paylines, as the slot uses a 1024-ways-to-win mechanic. The RTP is slightly above average, coming in at 95.5%, and you can wager between €0.20 and €240 per spin.

There’s a Tumbling Reels mechanic, which sees all winning symbols removed from the reels, and new ones can then drop down to take their place. Each time this happens, a global multiplier increases by +1, and this resets when no new wins are formed.

Sometimes, special golden symbols can land on reels 2, 3, or 4. When they do, they explode and become wild for the following cascade. If you manage to land between three and 10 scatter symbols in view, you’ll trigger the main free spins bonus round, which starts you with 12 spins and a multiplier of between 1x and 8x.

Now, during the free spins bonus, the multiplier doesn’t reset between spins, so it’s one of those bonuses where your chances of hitting big wins increase substantially later on in the bonus round. You can also re-trigger additional spins by landing more scatter symbols during the feature.

Bonus Buy /Ante Bet Options

Like almost all Pragmatic Play slots today, Bloody Dawn contains a few bonus buy options. You can pay 100x, 200x, 300x, or 250x your base game stake to instantly trigger a 3, 4, 5, or random scatter bonus, and you can also try to gamble your spins before the bonus round begins to win more.

You can also turn on the optional Ante Bet, which increases your stake by 2x but triples your chance of landing the free spins bonus naturally.

Pros

  • Persistent multipliers in the free spins bonus.
  • 1024-ways-to-win.
  • Optional Bonus Buy and Ante Bet features.

Cons

  • Low maximum win potential of 5,000x.
  • Different RTP settings available.
  • Bonus Buy/FeatureSpins unavailable in some regions/countries.

Bloody Dawn Slot Review Final Thoughts

Bloody Dawn feels like Pragmatic Play experimenting, and somewhat succeeding, with a pretty weird and unusual concept. The combination of vampires and a Wild West theme isn’t perfect, but it is unique enough to stand out, and we like how there’s a ways-to-win mechanic and tumbling reels in play throughout.

What we can’t understand, however, is the low 5,000x maximum win potential. In today’s day and age, players are looking for higher maximum win potential more than ever, and 5,000x, for most seasoned slots players, just isn’t going to cut it.

That said, Bloody Dawn is still a decent slot, but unless you manage to trigger the higher-tier bonuses with a decent starting multiplier, it’s going to be hard to get anywhere near that 5,000x max win - and even then, it’s definitely not the best.
