Theme & Design

Big Stack Nutcrack takes you to a snow-covered mountain village, where Santa trades in his axe for a sleigh and Nutcrackers replace trees as the game’s core objects. Like most Print Studios games, it’s an impressive-looking slot, and the scene looks similar to the inside of a snow globe! In the backdrop you’ll see snow-covered trees, reindeer, and a gorgeous sky: exactly what we’ve come to expect of Print Studios in terms of design.

If you’ve played Big Stack Lumberjack before, or Pine of Plinko 2, both from Print Studios, you’ll also recognise the studio’s signature “feel”, and their attention to detail and overall aesthetic is something unmatched by most iGaming software providers today.

Big Stack Nutcrack Gameplay & Features

Big Stack Nutcrack is played on a five-reel, three-row layout with ten fixed paylines. Wins are paid from left to right. You can bet between €0.10 and €50 per spin, and the game’s default RTP sits at 96.22%, slightly above the current industry average.

At the heart of the game are the Nutcracker symbols, which appear as tall, 3-cell symbols that can land fully or partially in view. Fully landed Nutcrackers reveal multipliers worth up to x100, and these are then “stored” above their reel for three spins. If another Nutcracker lands on the same reel, its multiplier adds to the existing one. The new total then stays in place for another three rounds. These reel-based multipliers apply to all matching symbol wins.

Now, sometimes, a Nutcracker can become a Falling Nutcracker, shifting sideways to cover a full row or cluster of symbols. You’ll also see Yuletide Gift symbols which can land on reels with active multipliers and award instant prizes. When they do, they can also be multiplied by one or all reel multipliers during bonus rounds.

You’ll also notice on the reels that there’s a persistent Santa’s Sleigh meter. As you play, this meter fills, and once it’s full, it adds Whistle symbols to the reels. Landing one of these might trigger Ultimate Nutcracker Spins, the most volatile bonus round. After it’s played, Santa’s Sleigh resets to a random progress level, similar to what happens after you activate the Hive in Push Gaming’s Wild Swarm.

Now, landing three or more Scatter Wilds triggers the main Nutcracker Spins, and you then get to choose your own volatility level:

  • Low Volatility: Awards you with 10 free spins with small multiplier increments of 1x and regular Falling Nutcrackers.
  • Medium Volatility: Awards you with 7 free spins, with medium multiplier increments of between 2-50x, and less common Falling Nutcrackers.
  • High Volatility: Awards you with 7 free spins, with high multiplier jumps (5-100x) but fewer Falling Nutcrackers.

During all three of these bonus rounds, multipliers add up and persist for the duration of the feature, applying to all future wins. You can also land between 2 and 5 additional scatter symbols to receive 2-10 extra free spins.

Feature Bet

Like most Print Studios slots today, Big Stack Nutcrack also contains a bonus buy option. You can purchase instant entry into the free spins bonus round for a cost of 109x your base game stake.

Pros

  • Stunning festive visuals.
  • High maximum win potential of 20,000x.
  • Multiple volatility free spins options.

Cons

  • Very similar to the original Big Stack Lumberjack.
  • Bonus rounds can be pretty hard to trigger naturally.
  • The base game isn’t that exciting without active multipliers.

Big Stack Nutcrack Slot Review Final Thoughts

Big Stack Nutcrack is essentially a clone of Big Stack Lumberjack, with a Christmas spin. Now, sure, there is the addition of the Yuletide Gifts, the Santa’s Sleigh mechanic, and multiple volatility tiers to choose from, which does make it more than simply a remake, but at its core, it’s essentially the same game.

There’s nothing wrong with that: most game developers release Christmas-inspired versions of their popular games for the festive season, so if you liked the original, or simply want a good-looking Xmas game to check out this December, Big Stack Nutcrack is worth a few spins
