Slot Overview

Bear Blast is a puzzle-style casino slot from Croco Gaming that combines block-blasting gameplay with increasing multipliers, power-ups, optional bonus purchases, and a maximum win potential of up to 5,000x. It looks great, but does this arcade-inspired game deliver anything worthwhile, or is it simply a novelty twist on slot mechanics? Let’s find out!

Theme & Design

We have to be honest, Bear Blast looks really good. Despite their small size, Croco Gaming has really worked hard to produce games that look great, and this was even seen in their first releases like Starshine Princess 1000 and Wukong.

The reels themselves are set in what looks to be a gas station parking lot, and the game adopts a kind of Pixar-like 3D look and feel; it’s really impressive and very visually pleasing!

Above the reels you’ll see the polar bear himself, donning a pair of dungarees and a bowler hat, and in the bottom left-hand corner of the screen there’s a blue car that honks and flashes its lights.

Bear Blast Gameplay & Bonus Features

Bear Blast is played on a grid-based cluster layout, with no reels or paylines. Wins are created by exploding clusters of two or more matching blocks. Each successful blast awards a multiplier rather than an instant win. The stake range runs from €0.20 to €100, and the RTP is slightly below average at 95.43%.

Now, once you’ve placed your bet, you get to choose which clusters to remove. Larger clusters generate higher multipliers, and after each blast, new blocks fall from above to refill the grid. Multipliers earned from separate cluster removals are multiplied together, too.

However, the game carries a clear risk element. At any point, a blasted cluster can award a 0x multiplier, which immediately ends the round and wipes all of the progress you’ve made so far. To avoid this, you’re free to collect your current winnings at any time, bank the current multiplier, and choose whether to continue or not.

Bear Blast also includes some random power-ups that can appear after cluster removals. These power-ups can remove blocks, guarantee a non-zero multiplier, blast multiple clusters at once, and more.

There is also a dedicated Bonus Game that’s triggered by landing Fireworks Scatters after cluster blasts. Inside the bonus game, you have 25 seconds to try and blast as many clusters as possible, up to a maximum of 30.

Bonus Buy/Bonus Mode

Bear Blast contains a few Bonus Buy/Mode options:

  • Power-Ups Boost: Costs 3x and makes it 85x more likely for Power-Ups to appear.
  • Bonus Boost: Costs 5x and makes Fireworks Scatters 125x more likely to appear.
  • Bomb: Costs 2x and removes all elements on the grid and awards a non-zero multiplier.
  • Bonus Game: Costs 150x and awards instant entry to the Bonus Game.

Pros

  • Interactive gameplay with genuine player-decided decisions.
  • Cash-out option reduces the ‘all or nothing’ pressure.
  • Lots of Bonus Buy options.

Cons

  • RTP is a little below average.
  • 0x multipliers can end rounds frustratingly.
  • Puzzle-style mechanics may not appeal to traditional slots fans.

Bear Blast Slot Review Final Thoughts

Look, we’re always happy to see software providers experimenting, and that looks to be exactly what Croco Gaming has done with Bear Blast. It’s a very unique game, and it looks superb; we have absolutely no issues surrounding the design work here.

What we DO have an issue with is the fact that the Bonus Buy/Mode options - Power-Ups Boost, and Bonus Boost, in particular - don’t align with what we’d expect. How can the Power-Ups Boost cost just three times your base game stake, yet make it 85x more likely for Power-Ups to appear? And the Bonus Boost costs just 5x but makes it a whopping 125x more likely for Scatters to land?

Those prices make us quite uneasy about the regularity of both Power-Ups and Fireworks Scatters appearing without the optional Bonus Mode bets activated. Still, aside from this, Bear Blast is undeniably a decent game, and it’s pretty different, which is something we always like to see!

Just be aware that the volatility is pretty unforgiving, and a single poor decision or an annoyingly timed 0x multiplier can undo a lengthy multiplier chain. It also doesn’t offer the highest maximum win potential in the world, although 5,000x isn’t terrible.

So, all in all, Bear Blast is an interesting game, one we think players will be interested in checking out, although the Bonus Mode prices do leave us with a degree of confusion.
