Barbarossa: Dragon Empire is, in our opinion, classic Peter & Sons: artistically drawn characters, vibrant colours, and a backdrop that, to be honest, feels like it’s been hand-painted rather than digitally designed. We absolutely love the look and feel of Peter & Sons’ slots, and we’d probably say they’re in the top three game developers in the entire industry when it comes to design work.

Barbarossa: Dragon Empire is played on a five-reel, three-row layout with a familiar 243-ways-to-win mechanic. You can spin the reels for between €0.20 and €20/50 per spin, and the game offers an impressive above-average RTP of 96.45%. The maximum win potential of Barbarossa: Dragon Empire is also impressive, capping out at a massive 40,000x.

Cascading reels are in play, so any winning combo sees symbols removed, and new ones drop down to take their place. Each cascade also places a wild symbol in a random position on the reels. Like previous Barbarossa releases, Barbarossa: Dragon Empire is geared around a multiplier chain mechanic, and this can be seen beneath the reels. Each consecutive cascade doubles the multiplier, which begins at 1x, to 2x, 4x, 8x, 16x, 32x, etc.

Now, along the chain, you’ll see special cannonballs (it seems the pirate theme wasn’t done away with totally, huh?) These offer various upgrades; Golden Balls guarantee a win on the next spin, Wild Balls add extra wild symbols to the reels, and Jump Balls increase the multiplier on the next spin.

While it’s definitely possible to hit big wins in the base game, Barbarossa: Dragon Empire’s main potential lies in the free spins round.
