Game Overview
It’s been a while since a Jili Slots release popped up on my review list, and I was happy to see this one, as they often offer something a little bit different. Jili is a provider that mainly caters to the Asian market, but their titles are beginning to gain more traction with Western players, so let’s dive in and see what this particular game has in store for us. Bao Boon Chin is a medium volatility, five-reel, three-row slot featuring a maximum win of 2,000x and an RTP of 96.00%.
There are some beautiful oriental-themed graphics on display as we enter the dojo-inspired scene where this game takes place. The grand master’s chair is situated on a raised platform framed with a glorious setting sun behind, providing the perfect place to watch over his understudies. Above the main reels is an additional reel comprised of five single-row positions, into which either sword or dragon symbols can slide. These symbols play an important part in the game, with the swords causing the reel below them to become a fully stacked wild and three or more dragon symbols triggering the free spins feature. It is possible to achieve a full screen of wilds thanks to the swords or up to 13 free starting spins if you manage to land all five dragons.

Bao Boon Chin Slot Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols
Asian-themed slots are very hot in the casino market right now, and many providers are finding inspiration from this culture, with one of the best examples out there right now being Thai Flower Megaways. It’s a high volatility, 6×5 grid Megaways style slot, with an RTP of 95.02% and a potential maximum win of 50,000x, that features a free spins bonus with increasing multipliers. Another great title, and one of my personal favourites, is Densho from game provider Hacksaw Gaming. This is another high volatility slot, with a maximum win of 10,000x and a very exciting bonus round where you need to land bird symbols on the screen that can turn the whole reel into a multiplier stacked wild. Make sure to check those recommendations out later, but first, we’ll take a more detailed look into the features of Bao Boon Chin.
We’re over at the paytable, and the highest paying symbol in the game is the Wild, which will return 20x your stake for each line of five. Next, it’s the Red Man at 10x, and following these are Blue Man and Golden Dragon, which are both worth 6x. The two remaining premium symbols are the Hat and the Writing, with equal returns of 4x for a full line of five. The standard A, K, Q, J, 10, and 9 comprise the non-premium symbols, and these will pay 0.3x, 0.3x, 0.2x, 0.2x, 0.14x and 0.14x, respectively, for a five of a kind win.
Players will find plenty to choose from when it comes to the stake options on Bao Boon Chin. They range from as low as €0.50 to as high as €1000.00, and many increments in between ensure an abundance of possibilities.
Bao Boon Chin Slot Base Game
Looking at the game mechanics, we can see that Bao Boon Chin operates on a simple 5×3 grid with 25 fixed paylines. All wins are achieved by matching a minimum of three symbols from left to right, starting on the first reel. Above the main reels is an additional reel comprised of five single-row positions into which special symbols can slide.
Expanding Wilds
Above each reel is an additional row position into which special symbols can land. The sword symbol acts as an expanding wild activator, and any reel that this symbol appears above will become a full reel stacked wild. It is possible to land a sword symbol above any or all of the five reels during any spin.
Bao Boon Chin Slot Bonus Features
Landing a minimum of three dragon symbols in the additional horizontal reel above the main game grid will trigger the free spins bonus. The number of spins awarded will depend on the number of dragon symbols seen during the trigger. Three will award 9 spins, four will award 11, and the maximum of five dragons will give you 13 spins.
Free Spins Feature
During this feature, the sword symbols have an additional function to that in the base game. As well as acting as expanding wilds, for each one that lands, a multiplier value of +1 will be accumulated, and this value is held between spins for the duration of the bonus.
Bonus Buy
For those players in the appropriate jurisdiction, a bonus buy option is available at the cost of 37x the stake. This will trigger the free spins bonus with a random award of three to five scatters.
Pros
- Expanding wilds land often, and there is a realistic prospect of a full screen.
- A sticky multiplier is introduced in the bonus round.
Cons
- Low maximum win.
- Free spins tease is one of the most drawn out I’ve seen in a long time.
Bao Boon Chin Slot Review Final Thoughts
We’ve reached the end of another review, and testing Bao Boon Chin has been an enjoyable experience. I particularly liked the expanding reels feature; they seem to pop out quite a lot, and although I didn’t manage to achieve one, I could easily see this game giving a full screen of wilds. It’s only worth 500x, but it would still be good to get. The introduction of the multiplier element in the free spins round ramps up the excitement levels a notch, so that’s also a positive. The low maximum win potential lets it down, in my view, and a special mention must be given to the drawn-out bonus tease; I could go and make a cup of tea and come back before it decides whether or not to drop that third scatter symbol.
