Game Overview
Bad Santa is a high variance video slot from Peter & Sons that offers scatter pays, free spins, unlimited multipliers, and a unique multiplier jump mechanic. With stunning graphics and a maximum win potential of 20,000x, it looks like a perfect slot, but is it? Let’s find out.
Theme & Design
Every year, as Christmas approaches, we see game developers pushing out a tonne of Xmas-inspired games, and the one we’re reviewing today is called Bad Santa, from Peter & Sons. Visually, the game is a little off the quality we’re used to seeing from them, and while it’s still well-presented, it looks slightly bland.
The reels themselves sit atop a basic snow backdrop, and there’s a sleigh, which is on fire, on the right-hand side of the reels. The reels are also semi-transparent, but other than that, it’s fairly uninspiring, if we’re honest. If you want a better idea of what Peter & Sons are capable of producing, design-wise, check out Barbarossa Revenge and Gunpowder.

Bad Santa Gameplay & Bonus Features
Bad Santa is designed around a 6×5 layout, and it uses a scatter pays mechanic, which means you need to land 8+ instances of a symbol anywhere in view to form a win. Once a win is formed, the cascade mechanic triggers, too, which sees the winning symbols removed from the reels, and new ones dropping down to take their place. Each time a cascade occurs, a win multiplier increases by +1, which is then reset after every losing spin.
There’s also a Multiplier Jump mechanic, which can trigger randomly. When it does, there’s a chance the multiplier can jump position by one, which can happen up to three times in a row.
The game’s main attraction is the free spins bonus round, which is triggered by landing 4 scatter symbols anywhere in view. Doing so awards 7 free spins, plus 2 extra spins for each additional scatter. During the free spins, the multiplier doesn’t reset between spins and can reach very high heights!
Golden Bet / Bonus Buy
Peter & Sons has included a Golden Bet option in Bad Santa that costs 1.2x your base game stake and increases the likelihood of triggering the free spins. You can also pay 100x to trigger 7 free spins instantly, or 200x to buy a random number of free spins (up to 11 in total.)
Pros
- Win up to 20,000x.
- Golden Bet + Bonus Buy options available.
Cons
- Fairly bland Xmas theme.
- Essentially a Barbarossa reskin
Bad Santa Slot Review Final Thoughts
Peter & Sons is a game developer who's produced some awesome slots in the last couple of years. Their designs are usually on point, they often introduce unique mechanics, and the quality of their games feels unmistakable.
Bad Santa, unfortunately, is none of those things. Sure, it’s definitely not the worst Christmas game we’ve ever seen, but it’s essentially a Christmas-themed version of their previous Barbarossa games, with very little, other than the Multiplier Jump mechanic and some half-hearted Xmas graphics, to make the game unique.
Sure, it’s a bit of fun if you enjoy the Barbarossa style of game, but it really doesn’t offer anything new, and we can’t say we’re particularly impressed with the release.
