Gameplay & Bonus Features

Avalanche is played on a 5×5 reel layout with 19 fixed paylines. The game offers an RTP of 96.34%. You can bet between €0.10 and €50 per spin, and wins are formed from left to right. Each win triggers a cascade, with winning symbols removed from the reels and new ones dropping down to take their place.

The base game uses standard Wild symbols alongside Multiplier Wilds, and these can carry values of 2x, 3x, 4x, or 5x. When more than one is involved in a win, their values are added together. There’s also a random chance of the avalanche event triggering the base game. When it does, Wilds or Multiplier Wilds can be added to the grid.

The bonus round, called Avalanche Frenzy, is triggered by landing 3 Scatter symbols, and doing so awards 10 free spins. Inside the bonus, every spin guarantees an Avalanche Event, wild multipliers become more frequent, and there’s also a global multiplier that starts at 2x; this increases by +1 after each spin. Landing 3+ scatters awards +5 free games, too.

Finally, there’s a Second Chance Spin feature in the base game. If only 2 Scatter symbols land, they lock in, and the remaining reels respin, giving you a shot at landing the third.

Bonus Buy

Avalanche includes a couple of bonus buy options; you can buy the standard bonus round for a cost of 100x, and, interestingly, there’s a Loot Box option that costs 250x. This can randomly award a higher starting multiplier for Avalanche Frenzy, along with extra free spins, a guaranteed multiplier wild on each spin, or an instant Max Win Wheel trigger.

Theme & Design

Avalanche goes for a light-hearted mountain theme, mixing snow-covered scenery, animated symbols, and a slightly comic-book-like visual style rather than the serious approach taken by some providers. It’s a nice-looking game, to be honest, and there’s a warm-looking wooden cabin on the left-hand side of the screen and a face carved into a mountain on the right-hand side of the reels.

When we first loaded up the game, it gave us a Wild North feeling, but as we played on, it started to feel a bit more like Quickspin’s old Northern Sky (an iconic release, and one of our favourites!)
