Theme & Design

Arcanum is designed around a mystical, arcane fantasy setting, and you’ll see glowing gemstones, ancient stone structures, and a shifting magical backdrop that all work really well, as is common in most Elk Studios releases today!

The Wizard symbol is clearly the game’s “centrepiece”, and he’s animated and performs various spells and tricks that trigger features like Wild Transformations and Expansions. 

To us, the presentation feels very solid, and yes, there is a lot going on, but Elk Studios has managed to bring it all together pretty well, we feel. It reminds us quite a lot of other recent Elk slots like Xibala and Cathedral 9.

Arcanum Gameplay & Bonus Features

Arcanum is designed around a 6×7 grid layout. The slot uses a cluster pays mechanic, where wins are formed by five or more identical symbols connected horizontally or vertically. You can bet between €0.20 and €100 per spin, and the game runs at a below-average RTP of 94.0%. 

Now, on each spin, a Wizard symbol is guaranteed, as is a persistent Wild that changes position before any cascades happen. Cluster wins involving the Wizard are tracked. After three wizard-assisted wins, the spell system is triggered. During cascades, magical spells and multiplier symbols can be revealed behind winning symbols and collected into a spell inventory. A global multiplier starts at 1x and increases by +1 for each multiplier symbol collected. This multiplier is then applied against all wins for the remainder of the spin.

There are five different magic spells, and these always trigger in a fixed order once triggered: Expanding, Add Wilds, Wild Transform, Wild Column, and Wild Cross. Each applies a different modifier, with the Expanding, for example, growing from a 2×2 to a 6×6 area and making one giant winning symbol.

Landing three or more bonus symbols triggers the bonus game, and this awards you with 7 bonus drops. Four symbols activate the Mirage Bonus with an extra mirror wizard. Five symbols unlock the Arcanum Bonus, adding two mirror wizards. 

During all three bonuses, the global multiplier, spell inventory, wizard tracker, and mirror wizard lock between drops. So basically, all features are sticky. You can also win extra drops by landing more bonus symbols.

X-iter Options

Arcanum includes four X-iter options. Bonus Hunt costs 2.5x and adds more bonus symbols to the reels. Mega Hunt costs 5x and adds even more bonus symbols to the reels. Spellstorm costs 10x and guarantees a magical spell collection before the first drop. The standard bonus game can be purchased for 100x. The Mirage Bonus can be purchased for 250x, and here, you’re guaranteed a persistent Mirror Wizard feature.
