Game Overview

Slot provider Pragmatic Play is blasting us off into the stratosphere in their fun-filled space-themed Alien Invaders slot game. Players are set to experience a unique pay system, free spins, potentially huge win multipliers, and a maximum win that can reach up to 5,000x the bet.

Theme & Design

You won’t often see Pragmatic Play take too serious an approach to their game themes and designs, and this is the case in Alien Invaders, where you’re greeted with cartoon characters roaming around their bright and colourful home planet. These sure are the type of otherworldly beings I hope we interact with when we finally have our encounter of the third kind.

If the space or alien slot genre is one you enjoy and want to take further exploration in, we’d recommend Hacksaw Gaming’s Fire my Laser for a similar cartoon experience to Alien Invaders, or if you wish to take a more serious approach to the niche, Big Time Gaming’s The Final Countdown is a good shout.

Alien Invaders Gameplay & Bonus Features

Alien Invaders is played on a 5×5 reel matrix where a slightly unique pay system comes into play. Only the bottom highlighted row is initially active, and matching 3 or more symbols anywhere along it will trigger a win, as well as activating any symbols in the rows above them, adding to the winning symbol count, thus increasing your overall win. All winning combos then trigger the tumbling reels mechanic, so this means more ways to win from a single paid spin.

Located to the left of the playfield, you’ll find the win multiplier, which increments by +1 with every 10 symbols collected from winning connections. Whilst this can reach big values, during the base game it will reset back to x1 after each spin and subsequent cascades have ended.

The free spins bonus round is where Alien Invaders really comes to life and gives you the best chance of winning anything substantial. Why? Because the win multiplier will stay persistent between spins, meaning its value will not reset back to the default value of x1.

Bonus Buy

For those players who wish to skip the base game, Alien Invaders offers two feature buy options. These are:

  • Standard Bonus Buy: 65x the current bet.
  • Super Bonus Buy with a 50x starting win multiplier: 400x the current bet.

Pros

  • A cool-looking theme that has been well executed by Pragmatic Play.
  • Two bonus buy options for those who want to take a risk.
  • At its very best, the RTP of 96.50% is above the industry average.

Cons

  • Multiple RTP models can be used by operators, with the lowest reaching 94.50%.
  • It's hard to get to a big win multiplier value in the base game.
  • The max win of 5,000x is a bit low for a modern-day slot.

Alien Invaders Slot Review Final Thoughts

You can never fault the build and design of a Pragmatic Play slot, with almost all of their titles, just like Alien Invaders, being of a very high quality and standard. Unfortunately, you can't always say the same about their playability, and even though we have a relatively unique pay system to explore in this release, it's nothing particularly innovative or interesting, if I'm honest.

Yes, you could argue there is some good win potential through the win multiplier, especially in the free spins feature, but in reality, unless you're bonus buying and taking a chance on the super feature with the starting multiplier of 50x, it's hard to see how you're going to get anywhere near that max prize of 5,000x.

Perhaps I've been a touch harsh on our outer space visitors here, or maybe you agree with my conclusion? Why not make up your own mind and take our free slot demo of the game for a spin.
